You can see box concepts of the deluxe figures here. The photos were released when news of the line first dropped.
To me, it looks like the articulation and size may be the same, but that they come with plastic display dio's, and maybe that's the "deluxe" part. I'd have preferred alternative heads/hands, but, at the same time, these are just concepts, maybe the actual releases will have more to the kit.
That furious homer looks to be the one on amazon, doesn’t initially look to be worth the extra money to me.
Does Jakks normally do San Diego Comic Con? If so, we will probably get a look at a lot of what's already up for sale and then some.
Jakks has a panel on Thursday from 11am till noon. They aren't listed as an exhibitor. Maybe they've paired up with another company for showroom space, like Diamond, otherwise I wouldn't expect them to have stuff on the showroom floor. Disney Entertainment Television is listed as an exhibitor, which seems like a good place to showcase a new Simpsons line.
Any word on what other retailers will have these?
I wish the review mentioned if the heads are easily removed or not for that reason as being able to mix and match would be a real benefit for the line.
Saw the figures at Target in VA. I just picked up Bart for now. Really like the figure for what it is, especially the articulation. The head does not seem designed to be removable, but it might be possible with boil and pop.
My guess is that Jakks will treat Bart and Homer like they do Mario, and rerelease those characters over and over with slight changes or new accessories.
Interesting. I wonder if they'll be similar to the "collectors" editions of the Sonic figures they do? They're a lot more expensive than just double the standard, but it might be along the same line: https://www.target.com/p/sonic-knuckles-classic-collectors-edition-action-figure/-/A-89101660?ref=tgt_adv_xsf&AFID=google&CPNG=Entertainment&adgroup=87-26
they better not be too much more expensive, we already went through the 'episode-specific characters at a high price' debacle with Super7 dammit
(I know Jakks isn't putting all their eggs in one basket like Super7 did, but if I was going to have a 'premium' line of Simpsons figures, well.....)
Personally I am more interested in fun, specific versions of characters, like if Willy were the buff version or Bart were Bartman (which IIRC is coming later on).
Somewhere Flynn is banging his head going, "SEE!!! That's what we were doing! But everyone criticized us for not releasing the core characters!"
I personally hope we see regular characters first, I'd rather world build. But there are some very specific looks for certain characters that I would still want mixed in to the line.
found a few comparison pictures. some of the articulation is a bit unsightly but I'm sure for a lot of people the trade-off is worth it.
The fact that they're the same size as WoS makes me euphoric.
@wickerbasket excellent! Same scale as WoS is a huge win! I was so happy NECA did that with their celebrity line and am glad we can get some much needed updates and potentially new characters for that expansive line.
Really excited to start seeing these pop up. It's a line that I think I'll be able to cherry-pick (or at least I hope). I'd get the family boxset if I thought they'd continue that scale, but so far most of the love seems to be going for the 6 inch line. I just know they're gonna give us the pets in the 6 inch line, but make us get another variant of probably Bart or Homer. Not the biggest deal at all, but there aren't many variants, beyond maybe Treehouse of Horror ones, that I think I'd really need; no Sunday Best versions or anything like that. (Actually, now that I look at it, it looks like Snowball II might come with Maggie? That just leaves Santa's Little Helper).
Still, they're nice figures, and the articulation doesn't even really seem to disrupt the sculpt or anything. They translate really well to full articulation. Saw pics of the (2nd wave? or second half of wave 1?) of 6 inch figures, with Lisa, Flanders, Wiggam, and someone else (I think another Bart), and they looked nice too. Flanders is one I'd cherry-pick, along with Ralph and Milhouse. Comic Book Guy too.
Heck, I'm already doing it. Simpsons is a property with too many memorable characters!
I would guess the pets end up as accessories for someone down the road. I'd actually be surprised if we didn't get a Santa's Little Helper.
I'm undecided on the line. I think I would like the basic family, at least, but I think Otto and Wily look better than Homer and Bart based on the pictures I've seen so that's tempting. Simpsons is so big which is why I was one of the few that liked the Super7 episodic approach, even if I thought it was absolutely dumb for business to not do a regular Homer, Bart, etc. Specific looks from my favorite episodes would be a real draw for me. A Mr. Plow Homer, or Homer in his robe and big, bear, slippers from "Homer the Heretic." Bart in his daredevil outfit, Marge in her...well, I guess just green dress Marge is fine. And I'll take any Phil Hartman character, for sure.

you likely saw photos of the 2.5in line
@wickerbasket Whoops, my bad! I saw pics of them in packaging, and maybe it was just the angle, but they looked similar to the 6 inch figures. That's the one downside to a line starting out with multiple scales- it always takes me a while to suss out which figures are in which scale.
Well, heck. That changes things. I may hold off a bit to see which characters are announced in which scales. I'd love for them both to keep going alongside each other, but I worry that one scale may prevail over the other eventually, and Jakks will dedicate the line to that scale instead.
