I wonder the odds of getting a Bam Bam & Pebbles 2-pack. Also, I may be misremembering, but didn't they have teen BB & P on the cereal box when their cartoon was airing?
A Jada videostream I watched had their guy stating different faceplates for Fred & Barney.
Did Jada ever attend NYTF? I was hoping to see some reveals from them this weekend.
I don't think they had a presence this year.
Scooby preorders tomorrow at 9am PST. Can't wait. It's such a a joy knowing competent people are taking a crack at these.
I wish we were getting Scooby up front, but I have faith in Jada to open pre-orders for wave two before long.
@tsi It does feel a bit odd to start a Scooby line without Scooby, but at least we know he's coming. I appreciate that they wanted to take the time to engineer him properly and not just rush him out though. Eager to see what monsters they include in wave 2.
Pre-ordered wave 1 today. Was a little bit pricier than I thought, but I'm not mad about it, per se. I'll pay a little more if it means better quality. I'm eager to get them. Been a while since we've had a Scooby line, and nothing quite to this level of articulation. I've only ever gotten the die cast Batmobiles from Jada, so I'm excited to see how their figure offerings are. I heard mixed things about the Universal Monsters offerings- some loved them, some hated them, but I'm sure they've had some time to work out the kinks a bit.
I ordered the full set as well. I hope they continue the style of one Mystery Inc member and two monsters per wave. It would only take 5 waves to get the whole gang. I just worry they don’t get there and we’re left incomplete. I also fear the line could devolve into countless Scooby and Shaggy variants. A few is fine and frankly needed to keep the line going (wouldn’t mind red shirt Shaggy with a Scrappy figure).
I wouldn't be shocked if Wave 2 is Scooby, Velma and one villain; then Wave 3 is Fred, Daphne and a villain to make sure the crew is completed, then Wave 4 could be Scooby Dum, Scrappy Doo and villain?, Wave 5 maybe Scooby Doo variant (hawaiian shirt?) and two villains, wave 6 could be Shaggy variant (red shirt repaint with alternate accessories makes sense), Scooby Dee and a villain...
I could see them getting the main crew done quickly to make sure they get out, but then if sales are there start expanding a little to auxillary characters and variants to see how it goes.
There are any number of Scooby variants that could be done though - he wore a lot of costumes over the years - Shaggy too for that matter. They could do a Scooby and Shaggy variant in every wave and have enough to keep going for years and years.
I PO'd Shaggy
Like, what did you do to piss him off, man? 🤣
I think I remember Jada saying when the line was first unveiled that the plan was to do 1 Mystery Inc member and 2 villains per wave. Of course, that could always change. Just doing Shaggy and Scooby would feel complete in a way, but I definitely want all the members, and I too am worried about the line lasting that long. There's certainly enough villains and variants to keep it going, it just all depends on the sales. I also hope that, whenever they get around to Fred, they don't only make him available with the Mystery Machine like they've done in the past. The only way I'd want that to happen is if the line gets cancelled before he comes out but they still commit to a Mystery Machine. I'd say Scooby Dum would be a pretty safe bet, if only because it'll allow them to re-use a large part of the mold for Scooby.
Scooby as a franchise has been in a bit of an odd place for the last decade or so- there seems to be a lot of nostalgia for it for folks born before maybe 2005(ish), but my sister's kid, and a lot of the younger folk I talk to nowadays don't really seem to care for it much. Their exposure, if any, is mostly the live action movies and maybe a few episodes of the various shows (and Scoob, but the less said about that, the better, in my opinion). I know they really only release maybe a single movie per year anymore, always straight-to-video, which I'm sure isn't helping matters.
Point is- I hope there's enough love and support for the line. Obviously, it's been many years since any Scooby figures were on shelves, but I remember the Scoob and the 50th anniversary 2 packs peg warming pretty hard in my neck of the woods. For me, however, Scooby Doo was a hugely inspirational part of my growing up, and lit the fuse on my love for spooky things, a flame that's still burning bright today, so I'm all-in for the line.
