For years, I dreamed of displaying my collection in dioramas but alas, its mostly in boxes. When I do look at people's crowded shelf displays I think they are ugly and overcrowded, and then realize that is how much space my collection would need. Enjoy your collection in the moment. Don't wait for "someday" as that will likely never happen. I have a storage unit that is a waste of $40 a month. It never made my at home storage any less congested. On the other hand, if you can afford to build a dedicated building go for it. I've seen some great "barns" that housed huge collections of Cars, Bikes and other items. It was like a mini museum. MWC Michael Crawford on Facebook and Youtube https://www.youtube.com/@MichaelCrawfordCaptainToy and a webpage http://www.mwctoys.com has a dedicated building for his collection and it is very nice.
Talkerart on Youtube had a great room/garage in his Vegas home but is building a new house in Florida so time will tell what he will have.
Michael Crawford did that on his property. It's pretty cool.
Personally I have a spare bedroom and I want it all contained in there. The goal is to have everything in there displayed. If there is not room for it, it needs to go. I'm not quite there yet though.
Edit: Ahhh.... I missed Mr. Articulates same post
I've been thinking about getting a shed for my figure collection in my backyard. I do need to cut back but everytime I go through my collection, I can't do it. I collect many lines like Marvel Legends, DC Multiverse, Classified Series, Mafex, Mezco, WWE Elite, and some AEW stuff. I'll probably cut the wrestling figures. Right now I have a few figures in public storage. Only issue I could see with having an outside shed is I'm in Texas and it gets HOT. I'm also in the gulf region(Houston) so dealing with rain and possibly flooding is also a concern.
@theknightdamien thank you for this insight. I'm saving this for when/if I really do decide to add on next year. Some good info in there.

I'm also in Houston, and that is a major concern. I lost lots of figures (and other things) in Hurricane Harvey, so that is always in the back of my mind. No way would I dare to put any of my collection into a shed without AC....I'd probably wind up with a collection of melted plastic!
I live in a Townhouse now, so I have limited space. I've held on to a lot of packaging for things like my NECA Ultimates, but I'm seriously considering recycling them to make more space in my garage (which currently holds some of my stuff, my girlfriend's, my son's, and a few of my nieces things!). I doubt I'll ever be able to fit my car in there, but I can dream.
I've gone through and weeded out a few figures from my collection, but even with that I don't have much space left to expand. I've taken to rotating out different figures to display, diving into the totes in my closet to dig out things that haven't been seen in a while. I'd love to have space to show off my whole collection, but I don't see that unless I get a significant raise, or win the lotto.
I'm not really looking to build a museum. Primarily I just need to store unopened stuff. That said I would like the storage area to double as a workshop and toy photography studio. I decided to check Home Depot and Lowes to see what this would run me.
200 sq ft metal shed - $2700
work table (also serve as a display table) - $250
shop light - $20
mini split ac & heat pump - $750
1000 watt power station and 200 watt solar panels - $850
Assuming I can build this by myself, I'm looking at $4570. That's significantly more than I want to spend so I most likely won't go through with it.
Thanks to the guys who brought up checking building codes and offered foundation advice.
