Occurs to me I am actually relieved I went easy on the Necro wave even though I'm having FOMO because on the "OMG GIANT BEAR" wave I went almost all in. That set hit all my favorite themes all at once, just a smorgasbord of things I love about fantasy settings.
I'm honestly glad the 4 Horsemen haven't gone back to well on the Bear Mount already with a Polar Bear or a Black Bear repaint. I'm sure it will happen eventually and I'm sucker enough they'll get me again... maybe they have to wait until they are done using it for the brown bear before they solicit a new color.
The rest of the wave was pretty great as well - I just restrained myself since the price tag on the bear was hefty
There's no question I'll bite on the polar bear mount when it inevitably comes.
My Harvester showed up...I love this figure! I'll be displaying him as a Grim Reaper, so I didn't use any of the bone armor stuff he came with (but it looks amazing). I played around swapping heads with some of the other skulls I have from ML (as few figures as I have in this line, somehow I've wound up with a wealth of skulls!). I put one on him that has a hinged jaw...that's going to be the one I use for display. He just looks perfect, and I am having fun putting him into other displays. I know he will really get his chance to shine once Halloween rolls around.
I really love how the 4H have built in so much customization potential into their lines. It adds an extra layer to the fun factor for me.
I think they're probably waiting for the brown bear to hit (or at least get closer to hitting) before a repaint of it is solicited. I think they've solicited repaints of new items before the initial one ships in the past due to them usually having multiple waves in progress, but it also makes sense to space something like bears out.
GI Joe Classified will have a polar bear out this year. I'm sure both of these lines don't really care about competition from each other, but both lines could end up having brown and polar bears in them within the next year or two. Certainly, the Classified line will also want to repaint their polar bear and make reuse of the mold.
I was afraid of the belt coming off. I have the same issue with Arrizak.
Yeah, every time I move them from storage to display the belt is loose and only staying in place because the robes are voluminous enough to keep them from falling off. I don't want to superglue them shut but I'm tempted.
I have the same issue with Father Christmas...only the robe itself keeps the belt from falling off. I've also been very tempted to Super glue the damned thing.
it depends on how lazy the companies want to be. Polar bears are actually built a bit differently from other bears. They’re generally larger, with a longer neck. A brown bear would look odd in those proportions, and vice versa.
I wonder if a very small piece of wire would work keeping the belts in place. all these old man wizards flashing people cos their belts won't stay in place.
I bet we see the polar bear as mostly a repaint, but knowing 4H I could see them offering a different head and accessories on the base body. They love getting a ton of mileage out of a buck but adding enough interesting modular stuff to keep it fresh. (Looking at how almost all the horses are the same minutes heads and a the furry/non-furry hooves.)
Good point about polar bears and other bears being built different. But we also know toy companies survive on repaints. I don't think it's guaranteed the 4H would make a different head for their bear. They've released the dragon-guy 4 times all with the same head (or at least the head 4 times in a row). Alternating a couple of head sculpts would have made the dragon-guy releases more interesting instead of the "here we go again" feeling they conjure.
Speaking of dragon guys with the same head, I was just messing with both tonight because I could never get Sskur’ge's tail on and I was like I'm getting this tail on this figure if it kills me. The dragon men have very sharp points, and I really kinda effed up his kilt, but they are both finally tailed dragon men. Just in time for the black-scaled fella to ship soon from BBTS and make me fight with it all over again.
One of my favorite things with this line is if you tinker with how the accessories are used you can totally change hte vibe or story of a character. I know Tharnog is supposed to be some great shaman, but I always thought his shoulder armor was a little overwrought. Stuck a sword in the hand of base figure without any of the frills and suddenly he's an old, tired warrior who gave up battle to become a healer, and looks like a man who's seen too much.
