I made what I hope are the final adjustments to these two guys so I snapped some photos and I like how they turned out.
Those look great!
Yesterday I opened Poxxus Arrizak, my first Four Horsemen figure. Phew, what a mixed bag.
I've purchased Four Horsemen figures in the past, specifically Figura Obscura Krampus and Anubis/Bastet, but this is the first one I've actually opened. I bought a D&D Mindflayer head from Casting Cave a few weeks ago and needed a base body for it. Casting Cave had the head perched on the Poxxus Arrizak body. It looked good, so I didn't feel the need to reinvent the wheel.
Although this was my first experience with 4H, I knew about the swappable parts and single-jointed elbows and knees going in. I didn't have any expectations outside of that. On the positive side, the base body and solid. The knees and elbows get decent range even if I wish the figure had more articulation. On the negative side, this is one of the most frustrating toys I've purchased in years. The soft goods don't sit straight on the body and getting the "armor" piece into the back was a nightmare. I had to remove the soft goods to make sure the armor piece's pegs would fit in the peg holes. I finally got it in over the robes, but now the soft goods are even more cockeyed.
My biggest frustration by far, though, was the belt. The second I pulled the figure out of the tray, his belt fell off. I pinched the soft goods together, tried securing the belt in different positions, and eventually resorted to looking at the promo photos. Then I lost my mind.
The belt isn't even tabbed in in the fucking promo photos. Why include an accessory that's holding on by friction and dreams?
I'm not opposed to buying more 4H figures in the past, but I won't touch one with soft goods ever again. All I needed the figure to do was serve as a base body for an amazing custom head. With the soft goods askew, it can barely do that much.
@tsi You happened to pick the most fiddly Mythic Legions figure. He’s still a great looking wizard, but I don’t use all the extra gear on him all of the time.
On Mythic Conversations, the 4H announced a knight builder experience at Legions Con. There are four color ways, which look amazing to me in bright metallics with a lot of shading— green, purple, red, and gunmetal. Lots of helmet and armor options that you get to pick yourself. The options look beautiful.
But you have to go in person to Legions Con to participate. And each person is limited to two figures. To even get all four colors, I’d have to convince my wife to go with me.
4H said there would be a limited number of pre-set color and armor combinations on their website, but in pre-set configurations.
I wish the 4H would just sell on their website knight builder sets in each of the colors. There was a purple knight in the original Mythic Legions display case 10 years ago, and I always wanted a figure like that. And then the Emerald Knight was a top request for the original Kickstarter. Now this Legions Con event is the first time that both of those figures are going to be available.
I'm just waiting for the 4th Horseman to finally ship.
@tfitz Same. I seem to recall Arethyr and Illythia shipping to customers around this time of year, but Poxxus got delayed until the following spring. The 4H were pretty open about the production delays with Poxxus, but they've been a little tight-lipped about progress on Necronominus so I'm not sure how to read this.
Ports have already seen an increase in holiday imports and they're expecting a busier Christmas push. 6-8 weeks of ocean transit + 2-4 weeks processing through a CA port + another 1 week to get the containers to NJ means that in the absolute best case scenario, the factory puts the wave on the water next week, it takes 9 weeks to reach the 4H, and they start shipping Necronominus to customers in late November. My gut tells me we're looking at late December or January.
But just to stay positive, the paint apps on these new knights are excellent and I'm always excited to see what they reveal in November.
Edit: This morning (9/16) someone asked them point blank on Instagram when these would be shipping and they said there had been some delays in production because of the complexity of the sculpts, but they were non-committal about any ship dates. I think a 2025 release is looking more likely.
Ugh. I haven't put in any pre-orders in since the Necronominus wave, and I'm glad. I just don't like paying that much in advance.
25th anniversary BBTS figure announced — Stavros the Unwavering
Looks nice, I really like the red and the grey, but I haven't even opened the green Cosmic Legion version of this dragon guy out of disappointment with the blue ML Aracagorr. He's just too static of a figure, particularly around the head.
The legs look so stumpy.
Oooh, I like the red and gray combo.
@grumpymatt Did you "break" the lower ball joint in the neck? I thought mine had really reduced range of motion until I saw online that most of them have the lower balljoint of the double ball kinda seized up. Popped the head off and put some real pressure on the joint and it got it working. Really changed his ability to get more head movement.
On the figure itself, I think it's a pass for me. I was curious where they would go with dragon repaints, but there's not enough new here to justify this for me, even though this may be our only chance at a black dragon.
Yeah... I ordered the blue dragon - because, 'hey, blue dragon!'. I ordered the green dragon - before I had the blue dragon in hand, because I order all of the MOTU homage figures. And while I like the aesthetics of this black(ish) dragon with the red armor... as others have alluded to, the figure itself isn't good enough to buy again... if it brought anything new and different to the table, maybe. Different legs could have made a big difference...

Holy cow. I had not seen that anywhere. Aracagorr just happens to be standing guard at my desk at home and while trying to get the head off I must have "broke" the lower ball joint and now I'm getting much better motion.
Thanks for the tip.
Still doesn't make m want to pick up the BBTS dragon.
@grumpymatt Sweet, glad that worked! I had the exact same bitch about the figure on reddit and a few people chimed in about the seized joint being a thing.
