I second Gizmo Duck. DST could make an amazing one, with a few attachments.Β
For villain's I am SO HAPPY to finally have a good Negaduck. Now I want Quackerjack. All of those figures were scheduled to be part of the Playmates Wave 2 that never was.Β
I doubt we would change our universal 1/10 scale to make them in scale to one series of action figures form the 1990s or however many figures Funko made.
Oh no, I'm not suggesting a change of scale. Only that, as a larger character, even a Taurus figure that dwarfs the previous Darkwing figures from the previous lines would be a must-have for fans, because he'd still look more-or-less in scale along with the figures they already own. And he could come with cool accessories, or be released in two different looks.
There are going to be fans who just don't want to start buying a DW line from scratch again (especially another one that might never complete the roster), or make the switch to a new scale. Larger characters are a bit of a workaround there, as they could still look good on the shelf next to the Funko or Playmates toys, and therefore be appealing to all DW fans.
If this DST Darkwing line only ever produces this two-pack plus say, one or two more characters before the higher ups go "we're done with DW"...which characters would be the most rewarding to put out there, given what already exists?
And while I know Taurus is the big bad, I think his other foes are more toyetic, and his supporting cast more deserving. I'm pushing for a Launchpad, but we'll see.Β
There are a lot of cool designs to chose from that would make for great figures, no question about that. And I'm a big Launchpad fan! But at the same time...we already have two Launchpad figures.
If DST toys is hesitant about producing more figures, I'd rather see some previously-unmade characters get their shot. Paddywhack would be another larger character that would please fans. I'd say Stegmutt as well, but he's pretty dull design-wise.
I also love Gizmoduck. Like Taurus, he's deserving of the deluxe figure treatment.
Β
Any word of this line from SDCC...?
I've not heard anything yet.Β I would hope we get at least Megavolt and Bushroot or Quackerjack within the next year.Β I finally had to take my DW and NegaDuck out of the box and trash the box, it was too gigantic to store just for 2 figures.Β I'm fine with collecting this line out of box.Β Hopefully we'll hear something from the DST guy who is around here, or at ToyFair.
More figures are possible, not sure where development is.Β
Saw on a different forum regarding the Darkwing Duck gallery statue that a guy from DST (not sure if he's the same as the one on here) said they're making another gallery statue (looks to be Negaduck) and that the lack of DWD product at SDCC doesn't not indicate the line is cancelled.Β He also stated he's pushing for more figures as the DWD and ND 2pk did well.
Diamond Comics Distributors announced today that they're filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.Β Not a great sign, but they said they're pursuing financing to keep things going.Β I assume they're not wholly removed from Diamond Select, if it's even a different company technically or what.Β Hopefully we'll have more Darkwing Duck and other figures coming (as well as comics et all) in the future for years to come.
Wait, daimond select is going bankrupt?
That sucks. I know they stopped distributing a lot of comics. I've spoken with the owner of my local comic store about it and he's hated the changes because Diamond was pretty good at what they did. Now they're frequently late with what they still distribute and they haven't had an on-time shipment in a month or so. I have no idea how the businesses there are divided. And they're tied into Entertainment Earth somehow, if I'm not mistaken. Either way, it sucks to see an institution in comics and collectibles like Diamond fall on hard times. Especially from a toy perspective as they seem to be getting better when a lot of their peers are either stagnant or getting worse. Granted, the subject of this thread was not one of their better releases since there was a lot of quality control issues, but I think in spite of that people had a positive outlook that those things would be rectified.
EDIT:Β Looks like their parent company, Geppi Family Enterprises, has DST as a separate subsidiary so this should not impact DST in a 1:1 fashion. However, I'm guessing Geppi uses the distribution arm to send a lot of its products out and if the parent company is also losing money it could trickle down to the other subsidiaries. It will be interesting to see if they try to sell some of these many subsidiaries in the coming months, or if this is contained to just Diamond Comics.
