Like the Thundertank that people paid $470 for, years in advance, paid in full, taking risk of not getting anything in return and being beyond the credit card dispute period. Being promised it was made-to-order only, preorder and pay in full now or miss it forever. And S7 lied, made a ton extra, and now they are $400 on sale.

You DO realize that the retailer that had it on sale (BBTS for a 1 day sale) actually had to BUY IT themselves first, right? They didn't just get a bunch sent to them for free from S7.

diamond distribution had them available to retailers. they are now on their wholesale liquidation list for $350 which drops from week to week. soon people may be finding them in comic shops for less than that. if anyone is wanting one they should ask in a week or two after the price drops again...tell em it is on the liquidation list to get the price. it will show the original price if just searching the item the usual way.

super7 has done this with all of their so called one time buy now or you'll never see it again exclusives. the tmnt glow in the dark exclusives were on that list for a long time and finally cleared out at something like $16 each.

So over on actionfigurenews.ca I have been doing a semi-regular track on this.  Not daily like the Haslabs.

Three days ago it was at 272 backers and then today I checked and it is up to 489 backers.  That means it did pass 10% of the funding goal, and the daily average over 3 days was 70 backers a day.  (Slightly more, but whatever)

At that pace it would just fund near the last day.  However, as I stated on actionfigurenews.ca we all know that the daily backer count fluctuates, and an average of 70 a day in the first week will not be maintained.  So this still, unfortunately, has a very small chance of backing.  Hopefully I'm wrong though.

Well colour me surprised. I didn't think they would get that kind of a bump from whatever source (most likely international backers). Definitely changes the math on this and increases the likelihood of backing.

771 / 4,000 (+282) 19.28% of funding goal with 53d 20h left.

Yeah, I was surprised to see the number had jumped when I checked it earlier today.  I think it's actually going to fund!  60 days is a long campaign and should get enough feet-draggers to give into the FOMO.  I think the campaign will also be helped by the fact that, unlike Haslabs, you can't cancel your purchase as far as I am aware.  So even in those middle doldrum weeks people won't be able to jump ship just because they're bored of it or they read a mean tweet.

I don't see it has Super7 having made surplus Thundertanks.  People, customers and retailers, ordered Thundertanks.   Retailers likely placed an order with a higher quantity than preordered by their customers, so they have some leftover in-stock quantities.  Also, some of the preorders were likely canceled by customers who no longer wanted the item (I'm guilty of this).   The Thundertank is a huge item and certainly takes up a chunk of warehouse space, so some retailers will mark it down if it's not moving.  They want that space.  Nothing sinister about this.

Certainly, Super7 Ultimates (and Reaction too) have been getting marked down lately.  However, it's not as if Super7 is somehow overproducing items and forcing them on retailers.  Retailers just order extra.  And mark stuff down occasionally to move product and clear up warehouse space.  Add in the fact that S7 is overpriced and has somewhat lackluster QC, so certainly there are customers who change their mind after seeing/reading reviews of the actual product.  This happens with everything retail.

Regarding the Cobra Mothership.  It's just not that appealing to me.  It's not really iconic.  It was in the 2nd season show opening and that was it.  The red snake-headed Cobra airplane would have made more sense to me.   Or a Shogun Warrior sized Cobra snake-head robot (which a small company did make a few of years ago).  This mothership is just too large and not practical to display.  And again...not iconic enough for me to spend $500 on.   Even if I had all the room in the world and had plenty of spending money, it probably still wouldn't tempt me.

Wow!

1250 / 4,000 (+479) 31.25% of funding goal with 51d 19h left.

Where did all these orders come from? Almost a third of the way there and the daily backer average (after day one) has increased to over 100 backers a day.

There is no way that continues, but the numbers are definitely looking much better for this project to fund. Of course once the early bird window closes (without funding) we'll see where the numbers go.

1411 now, six days later.  So yeah, down to mid 20s per day, which actually isn't terrible.  That pace won't be enough to fund though, let alone to meet any of the stretch goals.  I know these things historically have huge last days but this one came out of the gate pretty slow, too, so I guess we'll see.

@mikeysee  Yeah I am not following this as closely as the Haslabs, but here we go:

Let's do another update:

1,414 / 4,000 (+164) 35.35% of funding goal with 44d 20h left.

Well wherever those big jumps came from early on, they are gone now. It's been a week since my last update and it has only gained 164 backers, so about 23 a day. Definitely back down to a daily average that will miss backing unless they get a major bump in the final days.

I saw Ultimates Cobra Commander and blue B.A.T. at Walmart today.  No idea how much they were.

@canprime

1424 / 4000 now, 41d 17h to go.  +10 in three days.  Oof.  I've seen a few people mention on Twitter that they haven't seen the number go up for an entire week though, so maybe their tracker is a bit janky?  Either way this isn't looking good.  Hopefully they'll still give o-rings a shot even if the project fails.

@chooch that's nuts.  Super7 Ultimates at Walmart is crazy on its own, but that blue BAT was supposed to be a SDCC exclusive.  I'm so glad I canceled the two I ordered from them direct.  What a joke that thing has turned out to be.

Yeah I don't think the backer numbers are happening in real time. But regardless I don't actually think its going to fund. it's cool don't get me wrong but there are so many crowdfunds now at days. I think with a lot of these projects moving forward its all about timing and with it coming at the tail end of a lot of other crowd funds isnt helping.

Personally I think they would have done the Cobra temple for ultimate's because people would have bought it for classified including myself.

I had seen the post on Twitter about someone finding the SDCC BAT at Walmart and thought it was some isolated return from a third party seller off the website (some of my store's CS staff put online only items back into the returns totes to go back on the shelves), but I was at a different Walmart this morning, and sure enough these 2 were on the shelf behind some Scrap Iron classified figures.

I grabbed them both.

$54.99 each

@salemcrow If you feel like saving some money, those (and others) are both readily available and cheaper on Amazon.

Either way, it's wild to me that these are being sold at Walmart.  Kmart must be next!

I'm not actively collecting this line, as Classified is filling that need more than enough. However, I did snag a CC off Amazon for less than $40, and have the regular BAT saved to check prices weekly.

However, if Walmart is testing some stores with pricier collectibles not NECA or POPs, I want to support the idea, so I'm okay paying regular retail for SE. The 2 of them will join my "Ultimate 80s shelf" with MOTUC He-Man and Skeletor, Voltron, Lion-O, Panthro, Mumm-Ra, Slythe, Prime, the TMNT brothers and the Silverhawks.

@salemcrow

you might check your local Best Buy stores. they have been stocking them since early summer. I stop by mine at least once a month to pick up an online order and check out what they have on shelves. I've mainly seen thundercats, transformers and turtles. there are usually some marked down.

it is cool to see them in stores but kind of a bummer they toss out half the packaging with the sleeve and box. though...I would end up doing that as well.
