What's the boss line y'all are referencing?

Have y'all ever seen a scripted show like this ever just switch plotlines 2/3rds of a way through an episode? I know kids shows do it all the time, but this felt... weird. Like they didn't have the time or space or faith in either story to tell in one go?

Jubilee vs Mojo was fun - though why was he skinny and then not - ratings? I wish they hadn't put the Mojo shot in the credits, that really tipped off the plot. Also, Jubilee seemed excited to turn 18 - but then her old self told her she should be excited for new opportunities. But she already was?

The LifeDeath third didn't do much for me. That one felt stilted and hokey, maybe because it was aiming for serious and not for fun? The ending also didn't do it any favors. Storm's overalls made me LOL, I don't know why. I also have almost zero feeling for Forge.

Was excited for this episode as the teaser looked great.  I came away from this episode not knowing what the heck I just watched, it was so rushed and disjointed.  They honestly should have just focused the whole episode on Storm and Forge because the Mojo segment was there and gone before you knew it.  Which made the Storm section of the episode feel overly fast because one moment she's enjoying herself riding horses with him and bonding and then he's suddenly in love with her, she hates him for developing power-cancelling technology, and Forge's rushed declaration of love after one attempt at trying to restore her powers felt oddly creepy as well as rushed.  It seemed more like he was pining over her intially rather than wanting to help her or being Xavier's friend as he'd said.  The whole episode just felt off.  It was nice that they snuck in some X-Factor fan service, but I'd have enjoyed them fleshing out the interaction more rather than just jumping from emotional keynote to keynote that more or less seemed flat because of how forced it was coming off.  Hopefully the rest of the episodes are better and slow down a bit.

I wondered about that, too. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason for it. Just an opportunity to get in some cheap fat jokes.

I forgot about this bit. I assumed they had some shared history in the original series. If not, weird.

Hahaha, missed opportunity for sure. 🙂

Actually, I'm a little sad for how much they didn't do with Jubilee in this episode. No side-quests, no actual reaction to being in a video game or being impressed or excited at first, just a lot of Mojo talking, Spiral working (and unhappily at that? Don't know, too fast!). I'm not even a video game person and I know they could have done so much more if they hadn't decided to only give this story 17 minutes. I did like her seeing what her powers could do with effort - THAT would have been a good takeaway, and for her to want to go to the Danger Room to practice.

Also, they realize the longer they don't show Roberto's power the more underwhelming the reveal is going to be?

Sidenote, Gambit is feeling oddly underwritten. I know not everyone gets focus every time, but he's only had six lines in four episodes? It's not far off from that.

@tsi Mojo said something about feasting on ratings, and I think the implication was that ratings have been bad since we last saw him so he's lost a lot of weight. Then once the crowd started loving the video game, he became engorged once again. No idea if that relates back to the comics in any way or if that is the show's creation.

It wasn't -bad- by any stretch, but this was still very much an episode that felt like it didn't like its own material and so was trying to just speed through and get it over with. And there's a subconscious effect here where if the writers and producers don't think this material is worth taking any time on, then why am I even supposed to care about any of it?

It feels like watching someone speed run a story-heavy video game. Like yeah, I'm getting the gist and I can see it's all going to matter for the end, but it's all going by really fast that it feels more like I'm getting cliff notes for the end game than a real story.

Well said.

Lifedeath is a story you adapt when you are able to devote time to it.  If we lived back in the day where your TV seasons has twenty-plus episodes, it would have worked better.  Today, when TV seasons have like seven episodes and you want to tell a whole bunch of other stories too?  Not so much.

Still, I haven't seen this week's ep yet and I'm looking forward to it.

I see today's episode got Beau DeMayo back onto Twitter. He's sharing a lot of stuff about this one, though obviously don't go poking around if you haven't watched it yet. I get the sense this is the episode he has been waiting for and I can certainly see why.

That went places I was not expecting! This sounds insulting, but that felt like a real show.

I'm really curious where they go from here, or

Spoiler
if Cable shows up and undoes it all.

The Rogue/Magneto bit was played very well, her unexplained Savage Land attire aside. The emotions of all that landed. And then kissing him and realizing he wasn't what she wanted at all - so good.

I really enjoyed seeing a not!Hellfire Gala, and I want Emma in Series III!! Seeing all the characters I never really had exposure to because they came after TAS and I stopped reading was really cool. There were some excellent lines in this episode, I rewound multiple times to hear again. Magneto's line about leaders being allowed to be terrorists - woah.

The continued inclusion of Madelyne is awesome - so glad she's not swept under the plot rug. And this is a good use for her! The Cable of it all makes me think they're going to undo all that damage, though. Which, on one hand, great, I don't want those characters gone. But on the other - this was powerful.

So curious where they go from here. Also, Trish Tilby! Loved Scott's interview going south.

I want to watch it again!
