Only watched the first episode so far but I really enjoyed it. Animation is really good in some parts and a little stiff in others, but overall I like it. I've been watching the original series lately and this may be blasphemous, but the animation is pretty awful. I love the show but overall it's real goofy.

Wolverine's voice sounds off in the new series, but I understand these voice actors are much older now so it understandable.

Really cool uses of their powers. The new movie should definitely take a cue from this in that regard.

I don't think it's blasphemous to say the original animation was poor. I believe Fox cut corners to make the show as cheap as possible.

I watched the first episode earlier. I was never a huge fan of the '90s show, but I found this one to be such a breath of fresh air. The powers are cool, the story was classic X-Men fare, and the banter was wonderful. (As an aside, I think the banter is part of what's missing from the current MCU. There are no Joss Whedon's Avengers moments in the MCU anymore. There are just unfunny one-liners aimed at the villain.) The show's a little hokey, but it should be. It's about grown adults in spandex shooting lasers out of their eyes. More superhero content should lean into the cheese.

I thought Rogue sounded like a 65-year-old woman playing a 25-year-old Southern belle, but that's because that's exactly what's happening.

Gambit's crop top ruled.

Thumbs up from me. I'm excited for more.

I didn't realize how much I was jonesing for exactly THIS kind of X-Men story.  I missed them.  The movies are a herky-jerky mess of a "continuity" and the current Krakoa era in the comics just isn't for me.  This X-Men fan has been left wanting for a long time it seems, and finally something has come along and delivered!  The animation, the action, the melodrama, the voice acting and the story was all there.  I can't wait for more.

I agree with all of this.  Yes, we need more banter in our superhero movies and they should lean a little "hokey".  (The first writer/director/producer to have the balls to do this with Batman in the modern era will have my gratitude).

I loved the voice acting but yes, Rogue stood out a little bit as showing her age.  Not all the time, it's fine.  A bigger gripe for me, and maybe my only one, is them apparently going with the Rogue/Magneto relationship which I was never really onboard with, but I'm willing to see where it goes.

That crop top was all 90's.

Agree on Rogue's voice.  It can be a little off-putting.  I feel like the voice sounds older than 65, kind of like a stereotypical old southern lady.  Come to think of it, her voice sounds a lot like Dolly Parton.  But it's not enough to ruin my enjoyment and I'll get more used to it as the show goes on.  As a southerner myself (who has trained myself to mostly lose the accent), pretty much all fake southern accents on tv shows are jarring to me because they are always way over the top.  They all sound like the most rural of yokels or old timey southern aristocrats.  It is rare that one is done right.

I'm not sure you'll ever get it. Batman is decidedly grimdark now.

The Reeves Batman was the exception in my head as I was writing the post, though. I adore The Batman.

Sat down to watch some X-Men yesterday and hooooo boy.

The negatives:

Some of the exposition they apparently felt necessary resulted in the clunkiest, shittiest dialogue I've ever heard. Jean being all 'remember that MASSIVE event that happened to me last time I had this costume?' as if it's similar to that time she spilled wine on herself at Martha's Vineyard? It was the most unnatural dialogue ever in a cartoon. Every time the characters need to exposit, it's like they forget how people speak and the dialogue becomes AI generated content or some shit.

Some of the voice-acting is going to take getting used to. Between certain cast members sounding their age and other voices changing entirely from the original - I'm absolutely sure most of this is fine, but in the short term it can be jarring. Though not entirely unexpected.

They're definitely trying to cram too much into an episode. There's no breathing room. Fuck, during the 'Logan explains what's happening at the UN while sitting on the couch' scene, it literally sounded like the voice acting from Logan was put on 1.5x speed just to get through his stupid exposition and it was VERY noticeable. I thought it was just me until my wife commented on it.

The positives:

Dude. Everything else. It's so goddamn good. It's sooooo good. I was excited, but still had my doubts that this show could ever be a worthy successor to one of my favorite cartoons of all time. Fears allayed. This shit is the balls. Even where they're taking elements that I was never a fan of in the original stories (I hate clones), this whole thing is just working for me. It's 'adulted-up' enough for me and my wife, but still something I can watch with my son.
I'm willing to say this cartoon is so good that it's going to make life VERY hard for the people working on the MCU version right now.

Caught episode two today. The exposition is a bit clumsy, but almost everything else is perfect. The fact I love this even though X-Men: Evolution was my preferred X-Men show is truly impressive.

As a huge Magneto fan, it's nice to see him espousing his unfiltered politics. I wasn't sure we'd get that under Disney's conservative thumb. He and Storm were so badass in this episode.

As KD said, the eventual MCU movies will have their work cut out for them. It's hard to imagine them capturing the team as well as the show has.

If The Marvels teaser scene is any indication, maybe they'll just live-action these versions. 🙂 Would love if this season ends with an animated Monica dropping in!

I don't know if it was this thread or the figure thread, but someone said this is the first time they've ever liked Storm and Cyclops - and I had the exact same thought. The way Cyclops casually observed teamwork while falling from the sky then literally turning Mission Impossible and saving himself while blasting his own landing? Baller. And the "I surrender! Not." in the second episode - this dude actually has a personality and real-life concerns.

Storm felt very expository somewhat, and I should have realized her monologue about sisterhood was setting her up to lose it before I did since that relationship has never been explored like that in any medium I've seen (but certainly ripe for it) but the desert and the shards of glass and just her confident "Omega level threat" nature in general? Great. I could not get the subtitles to turn on (Disney+ controls suck - can anyone else not even fast forward?), but did she call them "incels" before she ripped them to shreds? I'm sure she didn't, but I can't think of what she was saying.

I didn't think these characters needed fixing, but these writers made me care about them in a whole new way. Magneto, too.

Side note: shouldn't Rogue be lining up to take a shot from that cannon? And Rogue delivering the baby was a great idea - and good story momentum, not keeping Jean pregnant and sidelined very long.

I got used to all the voice changes, but Rogue's is definitely the hardest. She does sound like Dolly Parton. And did the Rogue/Magneto relationship happen in the original series? I don't remember that.

And poor Gambit lost his eight pack.

Definitely loving this so far. If they can deliver an equal or better in live action, I am going to be extremely happy.

If you're using a Roku device, start the video, turn the captions on, go back to the Disney+ library, and start the video again. That worked for me with both episodes.

If you're referring to Storm and the Sentinels, I believe she called them instruments of hate

So I’ve never seen Cyclops use his powers like that….Uhm Morph takes on the powers of the shapes he takes? Was that a AoA Morph thing? Morph confused me. Yeah this story is certainly shades of AoA. Only Scott isn’t stooge of Sinister.

The show has the melodrama. I liked Magneto, Cyclops, Jean, Storm, and the action quite a bit. Beast, Wolverine, Bishop, Jubilee, Rogue, and Gambit were ok. Surely there will be episodes for them.

The story is pretty much what I expected. The first two episodes were drawn very well. It had contemporary twinges with touches of the late 90s. I enjoyed the episodes and the voice talent. The dialogue was pretty much in line with the other show. It was good. I think the animation looked more like the comics in design while still maintaining that 90s cartoon aesthetic. In fact I think the Hasbro product is too abstract more so then the show.

Thwipp!

I believe the rules for Morph, as established by the original series, are that if someone's power is a part of their physiology (Angel's wings, Wolverine's claws, etc.) he can duplicate it. What he can't do is turn into Rogue and syphon the powers of others, shoot lasers as Cyclops, etc. Where it's a bit more cryptic is agility. He turned into Longshot once in the original series to seemingly move faster, and more nimble, and he essentially does the same here by turning into Psylocke. I also have no idea where the swords came from he was wielding as her. I suppose one reading of his powers would be if he can create clothing he can create melee weapons too.

In terms of agility, shapeshifters can also sometimes use their powers to alter their muscles to replicate a type of super strength or speed (I believe Exiles Morph could do this), Morph might just have an easier time doing that while shifting into a different form altogether. Generally, I think the facsimile powers that shapeshifters use (when they copy physical attributes that are part of a characters powerset) are generally weaker to a degree (I believe Wolverine broke Morph's copied claws in the original series).
