Trailer finally released!
The animation style being so choppy isn't quite what I expected but I guess it does lend itself to the nostalgia factor. Wolverine's voice is....something to get used to.
Excited to see how this all pans out!
About f'king time.
Afew interesting bits from the trailer:
This Bugle story confirms that (hopefully) Spider-Man TAS's heart is still beating in some way, and the mutants featured in the fashion show are Banshee, Dusk, Maggot and I'm unfamiliar with the last one but she looks like a character introduced in the New X-Men comics:
I'm assuming the casket being lowered in the ground is a misdirect and they're burying Maddie after their confrontation with her, unless they're retconning it to Charles dying as opposed to going into Sh'iar care.
I was surprisingly excited about this despite my ambivalence toward the original series. I think that's decreased a bit after the initial trailer. The voice acting is... jarring.
Overall my main gripe is with the stiff looking animation (in most frames, not always) and the flat looking characters that appear to be heavily computer cel shaded. It doesn't look like Disney spent that much on the animation house that did this as in many shots very little is moving aside from a head or a single facial expression. Say what you will about 90s animation but the characters movements were more fluid and multiple things were moving on screen at once. It just feels like paper cutouts to me in many shots. Plus the frame rate seems off (maybe that's just the trailer).
Don't really mind the voices, I think that's about as good as one could ask for given that many of these folks are pushing 70. Only one I've heard that sounds really off is Magneto, sounds nothing like either guy I remember from the cartoon. He always had a commanding booming voice, and now it's more nasally / smarmy sounding.
Apparently Twitter / X is all about Morph now being non-binary. I don't know if that'll be brought up much or at all in the show.
I'd assume that the casket is either Jean appears to have died in childbirth, and then we get Madelyne Pryor via Sinister later that just pops up, or some sort of human politician dies, hence the reason for the sentinels coming back given their mountain complex / Mastermold stronghold was destroyed in the last series.
The 90s basketball clothes as a nod to 90s comics was a unique touch, I thought Gambit / Wolverine might've squared off like that in the previous cartoon but I forget. I'll be interested to see how they segue in the other characters they said are fully joining the team, like Archangel and Bishop. Maybe they are in and out of episodes, though I think Bishop will be most likely to stick around. Personally I would like to see Uncanny X-Men #304 / Illyana's funeral turned into a 2 part episode, with her dying while Colossus is out on a mission and Jubilee and Jean being there for her final hours, and part 2 being her funeral where all the mutants are gathered and an amped up Magneto crashes the event (maybe have Fabian Cortez and the Acolytes on hand) and appeals to Colossus' grief to leave the team and join him. Obviously this would be once Magneto is off the team and back to his old ways though.
I don't really dig the Gambit piggybacking Wolverine thing, as it shows they don't really understand how his powers work. Effectively Wolverine's claws would explode like anything else Gambit charges, but since it's adamantium I assume it will remain intact. Yet if he's charging Logan's skeleton, he'd effectively blow Logan's skin off in doing so. Plus it looks like he's riding Logan into battle, which just seems off. I'm all for Rogue, Storm or Archangel holding onto someone and then slinging them at a threat from an altitude like they did so many times in the comics. Personally I think Beast could do the fastball special with Wolverine if Colossus isn't around or Magneto or Jean could just use their powers to lift and throw him. I realize they're trying to innovate, but the Gambit / Wolverine combo just seemed odd from a longtime fan's perspective. I'm sure others probably liked it though.
I'll give the show a shot, same as I did the new Netflix He-Man, which I found to be middle-of-the-road mediocre storywise. Hopefully this is better. If nothing else, at least there's new X-figures coming out because of it.

Bishop doesn't have his armband for time travel wonder if it's a plot point or they forgot.

I was really looking forward to Christopher Potter voicing Gambit again, so I don't understand why he's now Cable. Plus Cable's original voice actor was memorable, yet is now X-Cutioner / Carl Denti? Why would they waste Jean, Gambit, Cable and Morph's iconic voice actors on mostly throwaway characters?
I know Jubilee's voice actor made her reasons known for why she didn't want to reprise. This reveal makes me less excited.
Exciting news! Can't wait to reunite with the X-Men
First two episodes were sublime.
Marvel and Disney are kind of shooting themselves in the foot here, bringing back the show that the live action X-Men will always be compared to, in such a high standard.
The first 2 episodes were so good!!!!! I'm really impressed.
I'm planning to watch it with my partner who likes the X-Men but has only seen the movies. Do I need to show her an X:TAS recap video on YouTube or can we go in cold?

I haven't watched it but I'm told there is sufficient recapping.
The first 2 episodes were ok. Just Ok. It can be great, it can also be garbage by the end. Cautiously Optimistic.
So I’ve never seen Cyclops use his powers like that….Uhm Morph takes on the powers of the shapes he takes? Was that a AoA Morph thing? Morph confused me. Yeah this story is certainly shades of AoA. Only Scott isn’t stooge of Sinister.
The show has the melodrama. I liked Magneto, Cyclops, Jean, Storm, and the action quite a bit. Beast, Wolverine, Bishop, Jubilee, Rogue, and Gambit were ok. Surely there will be episodes for them.
The story is pretty much what I expected. The first two episodes were drawn very well. It had contemporary twinges with touches of the late 90s. I enjoyed the episodes and the voice talent. The dialogue was pretty much in line with the other show. It was good. I think the animation looked more like the comics in design while still maintaining that 90s cartoon aesthetic. In fact I think the Hasbro product is too abstract more so then the show.
Thwipp!
