I will always respect their attempts to try new things, like WandaVision or She-Hulk, even if I don't always like the end result.
With the power of hindsight, though, I think it was a mistake to try to continue so much of the Avengers' stories. I feel, for the most part, like they got satisfying conclusions and nothing would ever get them back to the epic peak of Infinity War. Again, I do like WandaVision and how she progressed in Multiverse for example,, but at the same time we undid all of Hulk's developments, turned Sam from the coolest Falcon into the second-best Captain America, and de-fanged Loki (with a side of "Infinity Stones aren't that special.")
At this point, they had re-acquired the Fox characters. Phase Four could've been about the Fantastic Four (it's right there in the name!) I'm prepared to argue that Black Panther vs. Namor and the Skrull invasion should've been FF stories anyways. And Ms. Marvel too, if she were a re-introduction to the Inhumans.
I could go on and on (and did before I remembered my delete key), but you get the idea.
Have to say that after Loki Season 2, not much on the upcoming Disney+ MCU side that I feel all that excited about - Agatha, Echo, Ironheart, What If...? Season 2 all have some appeal, but less "keeping my subscription because I need to see day 1" appeal and more "I can wait to see those" appeal. Add to that the shows being pushed back more... I have to say I thought we'd be getting new Star Wars or new MCU episodes nearly weekly on Disney+ at this point - 3 to 4 shows with 6 to 8 episodes for each and a few specials. Doctor Who coming to D+ will help on the content front for me. But the pandemic shutdown and now the strikes shutdown has really slowed the pace...
@fac Right, I thought the same as far as how much content we'd be getting. And I know some feel like that dilutes the brand, and clearly too much means it sucks, but I don't see quantity and quality really tying in. If anything, I think they rushed it too hard. It's not like the same people are producing Echo AND Agatha; they have different teams on them as far as I know.
I can't remember if I mentioned it here or not, but I really want to cancel Disney Plus. My kids are fighting me on it, but I'd like to quit for six months then get it for two and catch up on everything then cancel again. There is no incentive to maintain it since I'll be paying the same fee as a new subscription as someone who's been with them from the beginning. Which I have. But my son especially watches the Star Wars and Marvel shows a lot, usually an episode or two before bed every night.
@ru1977 To me it is more they are making every show too big, WandaVision took its time, use the TV medium so it isn't just a movie split into 6 30 minute segments. Maybe others wouldn't like it, but I'd like to see them tell smaller stories, like Hawkeye, and be willing to not have an action scene every episode but dig into the characters more...
I am with you on the character digging rather than action. I like action, but it does get repetitive especially when you've seen all the movies already. My favorite moments from Hawkeye were absolutely character moments. It left me hungry for more Kate & Yelena scenes.
And smaller would definitely be smart, and not just for the shows. Homecoming, at the time, was refreshing to me because it's basically a kid trying to stop a heist. Vulture was never trying to rule or destroy the world, and had no big blue sky beams. I know there's still effects and budget and all that, but it still always felt very character driven. Secret Invasion almost felt like it wanted to be a smaller, more focused story, despite the world hopping. It just... didn't gel.
Honestly, I would love more specials. They don't need to be 40 minutes every time, but not everything needs to be a film and not everything needs to be multiple episodes. And not everything even needs to be six episodes.
and be willing to not have an action scene every episode but dig into the characters more...
I learned trying to watch Andor that I need *something* to happen each episode. There isn't enough character digging in the world to fill up three episodes just planning a heist. (For example)
I thought Hawkeye paced its action very well. Some big moments, some small moments. The action never felt lacking, but it allowed for the big set pieces to feel like big deals.
Just now getting around to watching Across the Spiderverse, dang is it good. My wife and I, being parents, were not able to stay awake for all of it after the kids were in bed, but can't wait to finish it tonight. The animation is beautiful and the story is great. Haven't said that about a superhero movie in a long time.
Echo got pushed back to January and Agatha (now Darkhold Diaries, I wish I was joking) was moved to October 2024.
I assume they're spreading the content out more since they aren't producing anything now.
As long as The Marvels is still scheduled for November, I'm cool. I'm excited for Agatha but what I've heard about the direction they're taking Echo (per the Leakers) in gives me pause.
Loki Season 2 - who's watching?
I liked the first episode, still a clever and quirky show and less predictable than most. Owen Wilson was great this episode I thought.
After I started watching a few of these D+ Marvel shows, I worried that if any of them got a second season, they'd just be spinning their wheels. I'll give Loki more time because I loved season one, but the first episode didn't pull me in. While it had the humor and charm of season one, I thought the plot was yada yada'd.
The most interesting part was the post-credits scene. JMS's Thor run is still my favorite.

Wow.
This article is the epitome of hubris and then mea culpas after doing hundreds of millions of brand damage. "We didn't listen to anyone - oops."
Thank god. It sounds like the reboot wasn't going to be anything like the Netflix show. Hopefully this is for the better, and hopefully they get more of the original cast back.
@schizm Well... yeah. I'm glad they finally figured this out.
@schizm Oh you posted the same thing, I guess I was on the wrong page when I checked to see if anyone had posted it already!
