So now they're either recasting Kang or Avengers 5 is getting a new title.

What is the other option?
@ru1977 My bad - I didn't read the full link that he had been fired - I had seen the verdict, but not that Marvel moved on already, as they should have. I thought there was a slight chance they might try to wait it out.
I wonder if they will pivot to Doom as the Power Broker that Sharon referenced.
That's funny. I was talking to a friend earlier after this news came out, and I mentioned how the Quantumania credit scene could just be another dangling plot thread they don't come back to, then names a couple others but I was sure there were plenty others I couldn't remember. That whole Sharon plot is definitely one of those.
I was telling him how it's like Lost where they set up five mysteries right away, but before they solved any of them they already introduced five more. Then five more. Like they were hoping to just bury themselves in insurmountable mystery plots until they were canned. And I think that's partially true heh.
But Marvel just bit off more than it could chew, or at least in any timely manner. By the time it's ready to swallow those bites, it's gonna be unenjoyable mush. I'm interested to see where they go from here but have kinda lost interest in speculating anymore.
Kang, DOOM, Etc…
It does not matter if the story isn’t solid.
I’ve never liked Kang until Avengers Forever story. They can move on. Kang pretty much shot off his fireworks in Quantimania.
Thwipp!
You could make the case that apart from the Council of Kangs the other plots have been closed - the Kang in the Quantum Realm is destroyed, He Who Remains is still dead, and Victor Timely never got the notebook to be a big deal I guess.
But I think they are pretty deep into Kang and the multiverses colliding to pivot to a different direction, and since they established the different looking Peter Parkers, and apparently different looking Reed Richards, they can cast someone new to be Kang.
They can and maybe they will. They shouldn't have gone all in on Majors in that credit scene, but I also really felt like Loki's ending could go either way. It sorta feels like Kang and his variants were hushed, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a variant played by someone else pop up in Avengers 5.
There were already rumors about Marvel's plans for Kang flying around within moments of the firing.
Doom comes in and nukes the entire Council of Kangs. Problem solved. That still doesn't solve the underlying problem. The screenwriter of these movies...well, he is something else.
I don't expect anything good.
I kind of figured this would be the outcome, given the evidence.
The best roadmap they could follow would be to recast Kang and set up his rise to power in the Kang dynasty or whatever. In the meantime, introduce Doom and have him working behind the scenes, maybe have him develop an interest in these multiversal incursions. At the end of Kang Dynasty, Doom seizes whatever cosmic power Kang has amassed and uses it to wipe all versions of him out of existence and create a new reality. Then Secret Wars is basically the Hickman story, with Battleworld and all that, and at the end of it the multiverse is merged into one timeline and we have our mutants and our soft reboot all that.
I have to imagine most of that is already part of the plan, but pivoting to make Doom the big bad would be the best option here.
I agree about Doom but I see a lot of people in comments balking at the idea. But... I dunno. Whatever.
I don't see why they didn't start building Doom up already. He was rumored to be behind the scenes of some Wakanda Forever stuff, and could be who bought Avengers Tower, and was Sonny Birch's benefactor, and so on. At this point, they'd be smart to not only start dealing with the threads but connecting a few of them to the same thing.
Disney confirmed Deadpool 3, Echo, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, Eyes of Wakanda, X-Men ‘97, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man for 2024.
I don't love the idea of Doom being inserted into this mess, personally. I'd rather see a Doom story that didn't immediately involve multiversal shenanigans, especially if it's being thrown together on the fly to salvage the Kang plot. I'd rather they finish out whatever they had planned with Kang - a recast can just happen, it doesn't need to be explained or even have a cute winking at the camera moment a la Rhodey.
Supposedly that line was in the script before the recast but it works.
