Haven't caught the 2nd episode yet but the premiere blew the socks off my mis-shapen feet. Anybody else watching?
I'm watching. Very impressed so far. Episode 2 is great. Can't wait to see how this leads into The Batman Part 2
It's ace, both Colin and Cristin are incredible in it. I feel real bad for Victor though, you just know he's the kind of poor kid who either winds up dead or survives only to get the shit beaten out of him by Batman down the line.
Well that was pretty goddamned great from start to finish.
If The Batman Part II is just two and half hours of Batman repeatedly punching Oz’ face in until he resembles post-fight Oberyn Martell, I will be more than satisfied because screw that guy. He deserves all that and more.
😡
Penguin has always been pretty far down on my list of Batman's Rogues, but I've really been loving Colin Farrell's performance as him. He's unrecognizable to the point that I still have to remind myself it's him under there. I absolutely loved that the show just let him be a villain and didn't try and redeem him. The show was just fantastic all around- from the writing, to the performances, etc. I really hope it's not overlooked come awards season- Colin, Cristin, and Dierdre at least all deserve noms. Cristin was fantastic as Sofia, and really vaulted her way to the top as perhaps my favorite character in the show, even over Oz himself. She was thrilling to watch.
I'd really love if we got some figures for this. I know the Penguin figure from The Batman is still hanging around a lot of comic shops and everything, but a slightly updated one would be nice. He'll probably get one for The Batman Part II, but I would love a Sofia figure too. She's right up there with Padme in terms of some really great outfits in every episode, so I'm not sure if Todd would go for it, but you never know.
It's gonna be a heck of a long wait for The Batman Part II, but I can't wait to see this story continue. Loving the Reevesverse so far.
This was an astoundingly good show. I didn't see one speck of Colin in that performance. I was already very impressed with what little we saw in The Batman, but this took it up to ridiculous levels. I agree that if he doesn't get some kind of award then there's no justice. And the makeup/prosthetic effects department as well. Just a comprehensively great performance. And Milioti looked like she was having the time of her life.
I'm not overly enthusiastic about hyper-realistic adaptations of comic characters--I like my penguins short, rotund and wearing a tuxedo and top hat--but this was so good it made me forget about my personal biases. You could definitely say it's not the most original story--much of it was standard gangster plot--but the character work and the performances elevated everything else to more than the sum of its parts.
For me, the performance hung on two moments: in ep 3 where him and Sofia are having out over his betrayal and his voice cracks and he tears up as he tells her, you just believe every single word he says (then you scream at the TV and curse yourself for a fool as he screws her over again 90 seconds later); and in ep 6 with him helping Francis in the bath. It truly transcended everyday performance, I felt like I was somehow privy to these heartfelt moments with these folks instead of just watching a show. It was phenomenal work from all involved.
