I noticed my Transformers white tiger dude (sorry I don't know Transformers names) has turned majorly yellow in a room with no sun. This is the one from just a few years ago, from the Siege line. Kind of disappointing. It is only certain parts of him.
@justice Tigatron? He's not even a couple years ago I don't think. Maybe last year? That's crazy how he would so soon. Maybe it is oxydation...
I need to invest in some UV film for my windows, because I can't just leave all my blinds closed all the time, but I've been pretty cavalier with opening them, and I have toys in every room (Buzzworthy Studio Series Prowl is right by a window, too, I've been super nervous lol).
Of course, it won't help if I open the window, because ya can't put it over the screens... *sigh* 😕
I think if it's going to happen, it's going to happen. I went through some boxes a few days ago and found my DCUC Blue Devil. That figure hasn't seen the light of day almost since it came out. The upper right thigh got that vintage MOTU Skeletor yellowed-blue thing going on. Just that leg, not the other.
That's so weird, and you're probably right.
I pulled my Mattel Voltron (the two foot tall one with 1/18 scale pilots) out of storage a few months back. That thing was in a BIN for AT LEAST 8 years, and before that, was in a bedroom with the windows COVERED (I had an odd work/sleep schedule in my 20s lol), and some of the lions' grey legs are yellowed. Was a bummer, but I GUARANTEE they never saw sun until I put it in my living room at my new place ^^^ "a few months back." (And to make extra special sure to clarify, they were yellowed BEFORE I put them in a room that occasionally gets sun lol)
I'm also wondering why it's just white plastic. Like, I don't notice any other colors just changing over time. Although maybe it would be hard to? I'm also curious as to if we do revert the plastic back to white using whatever method we choose, if its not just gonna yellow again over time.

I was just going to bring this up too. I bought my set second hand from a guy that was OCD about storage and one of the leg lions had some yellowing in the same area so he immediately put it up on eBay. Got a good deal on it. This was about 6-years ago. I haven't pulled it out of storage in about 4-5-years so I'm curious if it got any worse.
So grey did it too? That's good to know.

I did an inspection of my DCUC figures after seeing mention of Blue Devil yellowing. My Blue Devil, LoSH Superboy, and Metron all have it bad on the blue plastic.
On older figures I have it on my Captain Planet Dr Blight (pink plastic) and Sly Sludge (gray-brown).
Any color can yellow. I have a vintage GI Joe Nightraven that has a very slight, barely imperceptible yellowing to the gray underbelly plastic. I've seen a video on Toy Poloi that showed that 6% hydrogen peroxide in sunlight for a few days can fix yellowed vintage Skeletor figures. It's a UK channel so 6% seems readily available there but here it's only 3% you can get in stores. Amazon however has 6% for under $10 though. Not sure how it scales, maybe a few extra days with 3% will be just as effective.
Well, sh**, now I gotta check Metron.

I also did a complete check of my DCUC line and there’s more discolorations than I expected. Hell, Cosmic Boy looks like he’s wearing the half-naked Grell bondage suit now.
So I had a discussion with my friend who works on cars. Does painting and detailing and such. And he told me that the plastic will basically just change over time. The chemicals start reacting differently when they start breaking down, and change color. He said it happens to all plastics, even resin. Depends on the color of plastic is how noticeable it would be. But it'll always happen over time. And most likely alot of the theories we came up with contribute to it. Sunlight, finger oil, oxidation, deterioration, and just basically existing. We can limit these factors to keep things nicer longer, like not letting sun hit it for a long period of time, or using gloves or things to pose and play with them. But it'll still happen eventually. Even my sealer/varnish solution only postpones the process, but he said the sealer/varnish I use will yellow over time as well. Depending on the quality is how long that will take. High automotive grade could last 100 years. But the craft kind, stuff we would normally use, probably won't last more then 10 or so, depending on tons of different factors as well. May even start peeling off as well. Just something we apparently have to live with. He also said it's most noticeable on white, that's why it seems like white is the biggest culprit. But it happens to every color, even black. But it would take a very long time to notice it on black.
Sadly plastic is not made to last forever. I pulled out the latest Stealth Iron Man and he had that powdery white stuff all over him. Haven't seen that since the early days of DCUC. The first Robin and I believe GL had that issue. Just a weird chemical reaction causing it. It washes right out but it'll probably happen more in the future. I have that 4" SW Jabba that's a rubber body over an articulated armature. It's literally sweating out a substance that looks like the oil at the top of a jar of natural peanut butter.
