I'm looking for creatures in 1/12 scale. The Mattel's JP Amber Collection were perfect but I think the line is done. I'm also keeping my eye out for Mattel's Colossal T-Rex. Any other dino toys that might fit my needs? I'd be willing to sacrifice articulation if the size is right. Same applies to prehistoric mammals like the cave bear, giant sloth, wooly mammoths etc. Now that I think about it, I'd take some cavemen if they exist as well.
You listed all of the ones I'm familiar with that are articulated. I have the full Amber Collection plus the Colossal T-Rex, and that's all I know of. Mattel is now focusing on the 1:18 scale Hammond Collection because they can release dinosaurs of almost every size at retail in that scale, so 1:12 dinos have been abandoned by everyone at this point.
Creative Beast releases some of their smaller dinosaurs in the 1:12 scale, but I'm not a fan of their stuff. The articulation, paint, and sculpting isn't great for the price point.
Some giant insects might fit the bill. I have a large dragon-fly and ant-like thing that came with some old island of kong figures.
The can confirm that the Colossus T-Rex can fully swallow a bucky-cap sized Marvel Legends. It's pretty cool.
Creative Beasts' Beasts of the Mesozoic line doesn't have anything in 1/12 scale unless you prefer movie-style raptors (ie: bigger than the real animals, in which case their 1/6 scale raptor series is about the right size). Otherwise their stuff is all 1/18, except for a 1/12 scale Smilodon that is part of their Beasts of the Cyberzoic line but will not be released until probably next year:
Also, there are some offerings from a company called REBOR that are unarticulated but advertised as being 1/10 to 1/12 scale:
Smilodon has a number of color options and comes with a closed-mouth head as well:
The dire wolf so far has two options as well, one "realistic" and one more fantasy-based and each comes with three heads: closed mouth, slightly open mouth, wide open mouth:
This is beautiful! If I wasn't so confident that Marvel Legends will eventually do a Kazar and Zabu set, I'd be all over this.
@maczero Dino Riders Brontosaurus can work. Also Prehistoric Scenes model kits are close to 1/12
Is this Dino Riders Bronto you're referring to:@maczero Dino Riders Brontosaurus can work. Also Prehistoric Scenes model kits are close to 1/12
If it is, it's 1/24 scale.
As for the Prehistoric Scene model kits, I did a quick search and they seemed pretty small as well. Would you mind posting a link to one of the kits you were talking about?
1/12 is just a tough scale for dinos. Only the smaller ones really work, because the most impressive animals size-wise would just be too big/expensive in properly-scaled toy form. Most of the answers people give on this traditionally are based on subjective "good enough" size estimates. Yeah, Mattel makes some big toys, and the Super Colossal T-Rex is probably the closest to actual 1/12 scale of anything that'll ever get made for a species its size, but there are sacrifices in terms of sculpt and design that don't work for me personally since I am more interested in dinos as animals than as movie monsters. But then, you're looking to display them as part of a comic book world, so some fudging doesn't seem all that egregious. 🙂

Count me in for the exact opposite opinion. Silva does museum-quality action figures that happen to be extinct animals. My Chasmosaurus is *gorgeously* painted, and Mattel still hasn't learned about the existence of torso articulation like Silva puts into everything he's made so far, even including the teeny-tiny 18th raptor, protoceratops, and taco figures I adore.
Look at that GREEN:
If you are used to or prefer Jurassic Park-type dinos, here is how the Beasts of the Mesozoic 1/6 raptors scale against different size figures:

Mattel also made Super Colossals of Giganotosaurus and Carnotaurus. Not exactly 1/12 but they feel right size wise. There's also an Indominous Rex if you don't need scientifically accurate stuff.
