Men in Black in Marvel Legends?

At the beginning of the year and maybe some times before, I made posts on the old forums and a few places promoting the idea of Crystar as a Marvel Legends figure as I'd sorted out that Marvel owned the character.

Well, there's another famous franchise people don't realize is based on a Marvel comic:

Jay was originally a blonde white guy:

Technically, it originated in an indie comic that Malibu bought the rights to that Marvel got as part of the Malibu package but it wasn't subject to typical Malibu Ultraverse royalties, I think, because Malibu bought it outright as part of Aircel Comics, which is why it continued to be developed and get revivals after Malibu folded and Marvel avoided everything from Malibu's Ultraverse imprint.

The Sony movies continue to credit the Marvel Comics.

I wonder if this another case of "the rights are too messy to bother with" like the Malibu properties for them to do comic based stuff (but also why would they do comic based stuff?).

We know the license is available for the movies but its a dead franchise now.

Well,  even if Marvel does own the rights to Men In Black outright -  there is almost no chance they would put the characters into the Marvel Legends line since they haven't appeared as part of the Marvel Comic nor Marvel Cinematic Universe.     Even Crystar crossed over with Marvel - both back in the 80's when Nightcrawler showed up in his book -  or more recently when he appeared in the Secret Wars storyline.

For anyone that hasn’t seen that animated series it’s worth checking out.

@panthercult But they did have some Marvel Comics. And they get advertised in credits and trailers as "based upon the Marvel Comics characters".

Name one Legends figure that hasn't had an official appearance in the super-hero universe.    That's not how the line is built and it is not going to happen

First appearance Star Lord?

All appearances I can think of in that costume were set outside the Marvel Universe and the 616 version has had different costumes in flashbacks as far as I can recall.

Maybe... but he appeared in that costume in Marvel Spotlight and Marvel Premiere and while those stories didn't explicitly take place within the Marvel Universe -  they didn't explicitly take place outside of it either.   And while the creator of the character has indicated his intention to keep Starlord outside of the Marvel Universe,  he left before establishing that and Starlord clearly IS in the Marvel Universe now.    Marvel's current take on the character is not that those original stories were a totally different character than the current one,  so while it's an almost,  I don't think it gets us there.

Angela is the one that would have been closest since she debuted in Spawn and got folded into the MU later,  but she did get folded in.
