If Thor were to get the treatment, should come with a bearded head sculpt as well as well a non-helmeted head sculpt.
Not that it wasn’t already obvious, but someone at Hasbro is a huge MVC fan.
No bad thing. Those Capcom games were my intro to much of Marvel, so I’ve always wanted a Spidey who can convincingly hit that game stance - never convincingly managed it with Legends to date. I’m still not sure this figure is for me at full price - the accessories are the main draw, and they’re not unique enough to ping on my radar. I still think a full suite of Hulk smash effects (ground pound, thunder clap, etc) might get me over the line.
The other fun one that occurs is Sandman - be kinda cool to get one with the sand tower lower half, plus all the smashy hand accessories they can think of, swappable damaged sections, and so on.
I feel like Daredevil would be a good one. Give him some alternate Billy clubs, unmasked head and radar effect, some wrapped boxer alt fists, maybe swappable arms and parts so you can put him in his dad's boxing robe... His last release in classic duds on a new body was a multipack a few years back now so it's worth rounding back to him (especially with Born Again coming)
Cap feels like a lock at some point, if nothing else to give us one Cap that has all the shield variants you could want, though with his recent Secret Wars release maybe not. I wonder if the main part of the line is all-new sculpts. Guess we'll know more once we see that Hulk. I love the look of the most recent two Caps, but man I want the larger non broken shield for him.
I've been thinking and some of the deluxe figures already released feel like precursors to this. Thinking mainly of ones like deluxe comic War Machine and that awesome deluxe Black Widow that gave us the new rad female buck not long ago. I don't mind the higher sticker price if that's the quality I'm getting. I'll probably pass on this Spidey just because I'm not that big a fan of the McFarlane style, but everything else is right.
Another thing I wonder, what villains would be good for this line? Kang and Doom both feel like they've gotten their due for the most part. I could potentially see a Jim Lee Magneto with several heads, effects, and a spare helmet to put on other figures. I wonder what other villains would be worth doing this way that haven't had a release or rerelease so recently that they wouldn't be worth it.
Would the rumoured/leaked deluxed X-men 97 Storm possibly be in this line?
Imagine if she came with 92 big hair head, 97 mohawk head (both sets having neutral and powered/angry). Wired cape and lightning effects and swappable hands and a flight stand?
I think this is not just a deluxe format where you can get any character with a bunch of accessories, though it may evolve into that. This is meant for evergreen characters, and I think they stated that in the stream. That’s why I didn’t think further than guys like Cap and Daredevil, because they’re guys whose figures get a lot of demand but tend to not hang around (in DD’s case) or come with imperfect accessories (shields). While I love the idea of getting Iceman with tons of ice add ons, I don’t think he’s one of those A-list who need an evergreen figure. Also, I don’t actually believe these will stay in stock the way we want! I think they’ll sell out in preorders and continue to be tough to acquire.
I'm watching the the Unparalleled Universe stream with Dan Yun and he doesn't completely dismiss non A list characters, depending on sales. If you were to compare Ultimate Edition WWE figures, they seemed to have a narrow focus in the begining, but now it feels like anyone can get an Ultimate. They've debuted wrestlers and specific looks as an Ultimate, plus all the retail exclusives...If there's money to be made, I don't think Hasbro will leave it on the table.
Not that it wasn’t already obvious, but someone at Hasbro is a huge MVC fan.
I put more references than that one in the photo shoot lol :p
Really looking forward to this Spider-Man. He looks really well done and comes with a great variety of accessories.
Very tempted to pick up multiples, but that's a lot of accessories to just hang around in a plastic bag...
Concerned about the price, but hoping he remains $35 max.
Yeah... $72 canadian is the equivalent of $50 US. If two extra heads, a couple of extra hands and some webs actually DOUBLE the price then Hasbro can 100% keep all of these.
Honestly for me anything more than a $35 asking price is robbery.
This was your standard spread of accessories for the Lightning Collection Remastered line. A comparable "ultimate" line of figures. These were $35 a pop and Hasbro owns PR so that's without licensing fees (I hesitate to mention that because I think licensing fees are used as a scape goat too often, but gotta put the cards on the table).
Now at the time Hasbro was actually making PR figures, a standard PR and a standard ML figure were both the same price. If that follows, this Spidey would be $35USD, but honestly, that seems like wishful thinking. If you play the licensing fee card and Maximum Series is the comparable Marvel line that it appears to be, I would guess you have to tack on at least $5. $50 USD? That would be outrageous and yet I can't put it past them.
Love the idea for the Fantastic Four in this line. Would prefer the classic Kirby blues, but wouldn’t mind the Byrne black either.
Biggest draw for me would be a true Kirby/Byrne style Thing. Shorter than the current one we have, more platey than rocky.
Mr Fantastic is an obvious choice with some swappable arms and stretched out torso piece.
I wouldn’t need Sue or Johnny as bad, but a Sue with some swappable half-phased limbs could be cool.
The line sounds great. The speculated price at $50 is not. I’m thinking $35-40 sounds more reasonable. I’ll wait for a sale or just miss out.
I think $40 for Spidey is at the top of fair. Beyond that, it's not. I think the price could vary per character though. Take the rumored Hulk. No way they'd make him $40 but give him the kind of accessory pack out we'd expect. He'll push $45-50. But regular sized dudes like Spidey, Cap, Daredevil, should be no more than $40.
@yojoebro82 that was basically the math I was doing in my head to get to $40. It's a $35 release, but because it's Disney/Marvel tack on another five bucks, which technically isn't how licensing works, but whatever. At that price curiosity would probably get the best of me and I'd take a look at this Spider-Man. Todd's take on the character isn't my preferred look for the wall crawler, and I have some nits to pick with this particular sculpt, but I could overlook that to check it out. And at worst, at least I have a bunch of webs for the other Spider-Men in my collection. If they're trying to get $50 for what is really a Legends figure with a bunch of stuff then they can pound sand.
This Maximum Spider-Man looks amazing and is a must-have.
Hasbro already experimented with this kind of idea with the deluxe retro card Modular Armor Iron Man with the big gun. And the deluxe War Machine.
My top picks:
Iron Man! Having multiple armors to pick from is a good thing, not a detractor. Metallic paint/plastic, repulsors, unibeam effects, missiles, pulse bolt effects, sonic effects, energy shields, etc. Tons of potential accessories. Hasbro could easily make multiple Maximum Iron Man figures.
Dr. Doom— fully classic armor with the soft fabric cape and multiple helmets, Doombot head, unmasked heads, energy effects, etc.
Magneto— fabric cape; multiple heads/helmets like a fully shadowed helmet; magneto effects and force fields. Really compete with the Mafex figure.
Lee Cyclops seems like he would be a good fit - jacket/no jacket arms, normal/screaming/no cowl heads and beams.
They've been dancing around that one for a while between the cel shaded and animated releases
