They're not going to do box sets.  That was obvious from the start given their stated goals for Haslabs, i.e. to fund large items too expensive for retail, but someone explicitly asked the Legends team this in an interview and they said that's not something they consider.

It seems like it has to be... but honestly, I hope they avoid the temptation to make him too big.   I'm hoping he's smaller than galactus and wouldn't be mad if he was smaller than the Sentinel.   I'd be very happy to have him be 18 inches tall and instead be plussed up with extras. A wasp (or two)... a new Yellow Jacket...

This... i don't want him galactus sized, nor do i need him to be sentinel sized..  hell make it a 18" multi-pack even... knock out Giantman, Goliath, and Atlas in one swoop

There are a lot of people that don't seem to want Giant-Man to be as big as Galactus or the Sentinel. While I absolutely and completely understand that from a cost perspective, it's very ironic to me. According to my handy Marvel Universe encyclopedia I have on my desk Galactus is considered 26'9" tall and the Sentinels' standard height was 20 feet. Giant Man is listed as being able to grow up to 100 feel tall!!! Now I realize different artists have drawn all of these characters in various heights at different times - but according to the version of the Marvel encyclopedia that I have Giant-Man can be more than twice the height of Galactus and a Sentinel standing on top of each other!! I just thought that I'd interject that into the conversation.

I'll stick to my prediction however that the HasLab Giant Man will end up being just a little shorter than the Sentinel -- I'll say 24-25 inches, and I still think it will be $400. Dwight has said multiple times that Galactus or the Sentinel would have to both be at a $550 price point if released today. Tiers to include first appearance Wasp, Yellowjacket (could be Hank or Rita either one) and either Jarvis or Rick Jones (probably Jarvis). I think that there will be alternate head somewhere in there also.

It's so fun to speculate - so let's keep it up! We'll know soon enough and it's likely that the final offering will be underwhelming compared to our speculation just because we all have such high hopes. That's just part of being a fan, I guess!

Here's the thing... they said that but there's nothing binding about their statement.   If the next two oversize items they try to produce as HasLabs fail they may very well try and pivot to a multipack approach  with some deluxe accessories or something before abandoning the idea entirely.   If that is well received then maybe they lean into that model more going forward.     Maybe they'll just shut the whole thing down instead,  but I'd be surprised if they didn't at least try to see if a multi-pack approach might work.    Mattel did it way back when for LoSH.

@beamish That would be a home run set for me! I have a hard time imagining them going all the way with the swappable overlays, etc, but it's exactly the kind of fully realized/dream project I'd like to see them doing with Haslabs.

Also I'll take a brief moment here to grieve the Hellcharger. RIP demon car, and bless Ramen Toy for the work they're doing to make up for (and maybe improve upon...?) your absence.

Absolutely. I ordered the Race because I didn't like the way the EOV HasbLab was set up. I can't wait till it ships in December!

A few things:

-Avengers #1 debuted in September of 1963, so this HasLab probably won't be released until September, which is just a few days away. They can publicize this as "60 years ago this month...". I doubt this will be revealed later than September.

-The G.I. Joe Dragonfly and the SW Ghost campaigns did not overlap, so perhaps Hasbro realized overlapping these major campaigns is a terrible business practice. If so, the Legends HasLab won't be revealed until after September 7th when the Ghost campaign is over. Also, if there are other campaigns besides the upcoming Legends one and they are not overlapping, the Legends HasLab needs to be revealed soon to avoid overlap with the following HasLab to get it in before the end of 2023.

-Dragonfly was revealed during a livestream. Ghost at SDCC. So, the Legends HasLab will more than likely be revealed in a dramatic fashion like a livestream, not through Instagram/Facebook/Twitter.

-So, due to timing, I predict this will be revealed at PulseCon - a major event, after Sept. 7th, early enough for other HasLabs to follow but not conflict. Dwight, Dan and Ryan will show the pictures in order, revealing the HasLab in picture #7, then show the prototype(s).

-Three "biggies" missing so far from any Avengers product this year are: comic Wasp who was featured on SDCC booth art (1st appearance) - the only founder with zero product, comic Carol who was also featured on SDCC booth art (1970's), and a growing Avenger. Both Hank and Clint have already been represented with figures (WCA boxset and skycycle respectively) and the Ant-Man update can pass for both Hank and Scott, but neither guy is in giant form. My guess is the HasLab is large size 1st appearance costume Giant-Man (somewhere between Super-Adaptoid and Sentinel height) and 1st appearance Wasp (both regular size and a newly tooled mini-version which will become the standard for every mini-Wasp figure going forward). Or Giant-Man with a Wasp tier that isn't her 1st appearance look, leaving both 1st appearance Wasp and Carol to be exclusives. Target's collector event is just before PulseCon, so that would be an excellent place to offer an exclusive 1st appearance Wasp.

?w=640

There is also some reveal on August 31st, so that could be Jan or Carol, since the clues fit both of their 1st appearance looks.

-Other notable missing classic Avengers who add to/complete eras, Swordsman, Mantis, Starfox, Dr. Druid, Crystal, Jarvis, Rick Jones, and updates to ToyBiz Falcon, strappy sandals Herc, classic She-Hulk will have to wait until 2024 and beyond. Or show up with the new Vision. Less notable, but complete the classic team: Stingray, Jack of Hearts, Firebird, Two-Gun Kid, Demolition Man, Gilgamesh, Jim Hammond Human Torch, Living Lightning, Triathlon, Silverclaw, Lionheart.

-An updated Yellowjacket could be offered next year to coincide with this HasLab shipping, like Galactus and Firelord.

-The two pictures revealed so far feature heroes and villains, so maybe the HasLab will have both good and bad represented.

-Bucky Cap and the Veranke 2-pack are the only anniversary sets based on "modern" stories (post Disassembled). Everything else is classic. So, the trend is to skew classic.

I think comic Giant-Man should top out at 15".   I believe he was limited to 15ft tall (at least for a while) due to the strain on his body from going larger.   So keep his Haslab figure smaller.  And pack it will other items (Ultron 1).   It will be a shame of FA Wasp (Avengers #1) is locked behind a Haslab, but Hasbro could re-release her in the main line.  Maybe just give people a heads up she isn't locked into the Haslab.

It's almost too bad Egghead was a mainline release, as he's a character who could have been locked into a Haslab.

It would be neat to have a normal sized Giant-Man in the Haslab.  So you can have him normal size and grown size.   Hell, why not add in a ~10-12" version, so you can have him at a few different sizes?

Maybe the Haslab will be all Under Siege related characters? Josten Goliath, Rita yellow Jacket, Yellow and Black 80s outfit for Wasp, Jarvis, and Titania.

Take my money, Hasbro (as if they're not already taking like, all my money). Seriously, that would be amazing. Throw in a Dr Druid as another tier bonus and that would be the bald, bearded cherry on top. Sorry for that visual.

Marvel isn't as good a fit for HasLab as like, any of Hasbro's other brands. Very few large characters could command a big enough audience to fund, and their first foray into vehicles failed. Here are the projects I could see funding or getting close:

  • Giant-Man
  • Fin Fang Foom
  • Spider-Mobile
  • Fantasticar
  • Blackbird
  • Quinjet

I have serious doubts about all but the first two.

Here's the thing... they said that but there's nothing binding about their statement.

Shhh.  They made that statement and are now bound by it.  Forever and ever.  Thus are the rules of the Toy Covenant.

If they offer something as a Haslab that could easily just be a Pulse or Fan Channel exclusive then they're diluting the concept, and every impression I've gotten from everything they've ever said tells me they keenly understand this.  My guess is that if it happens it isn't because they can't think of another viable Haslab but instead there's a new exec who doesn't care about maintaining Haslab as a premium brand and is willing to cheapen it for short-term profit.

Mattel's crowdfunding efforts have been far less impressive than Hasbro's so while I didn't know they had tried to crowdfund a box set it doesn't surprise me at all.  I won't be expecting it with Haslab until I see evidence of them trying to really scrape the bottom of the concept's barrel.

I made this point several times during the last campaign, but the bonus figures are almost a lose/lose proposition. Either people are enraged that someone seminal to their collection is locked behind a $400 paywall, or it's someone nearly anonymous like Morg who's met with shrugs.

I think the best avenue is Morg and something like the Cobra Commander with the paint error, but that does very little to move the needle. The GI Joe tank commanders were also a good idea, but that's almost impossible to replicate on the Marvel side.

This is why they did it.  Ryan and Dwight explicitly said during an SDCC interview that their Haslab would begin after the Ghost campaign ends.

I think "box set" has been thrown around based on what I said on the last page. If you read my post, I didn't mean a literal box set. I'm talking about one BAF-sized character (Mangog, Cameron Hodge, etc.) and more obscure characters accompanying them. Throw in a few unique sculpts to justify the HasLab concept.

The Warriors Three are a good example. They'd require at least one new sculpt and a ton of new parts to be done correctly. Give us the Warriors Three and Executioner/Bloodaxe/Karnilla and charge $150. You could easily make the case that a set like that would never see the light of day at retail.

@beamish sound reasoning all around. Pulse Con is scheduled for September 22-23, so launching the campaign before then gives them a chance to promote during the event, which I believe tracks with previous campaigns.

@tsi I would be confident in the whole list, but replace the Blackbird with a Punisher van. After last year though, the bigger vehicles definitely seem less of a sure thing. The Spider-Mobile and Fantasticar are smaller and open, and probably much cheaper to produce. No one is buying a shell of a Quinjet or Punisher van, so they'd need the interior detailing. Even the McF Batwing with only a single cockpit interior came out at $250, so a Quinjet that would be more complicated all over is likely to be too pricey for people to bite.
