I don't know who he is playing, but in the trailer he was the spitting image of Red Ghost from the comics. He just needed some Super Apes.
@stephenwdavis that was definitely my first thought when I saw the trailer too, but I also think it would be cool if they leaned hard into science fiction.
Now those non humanoid bots, HERBIE ("he" according to the above comic), R2D2 ('he") or even the starship Enterprise ("she"), I guess I chalk that up to human idiosyncrasy. If I call my car "boy" for some reason and the next owner calls it "girl' neither of us are wrong. We're just doing a weird human thing.
I have no "dog in this fight" per se, and don't particularly care, but my understanding of the English language is that if you don't know something's sex it's assumed "he" by default until specified otherwise, at least from a literature perspective. Ships are considered "female" in English because they have a ships "berth" meaning it unloads it's precious cargo at a specified location. Older forms of English sometimes swapped out certain vowels for other ones even though the word still kept roughly the same spelling and its connotation/meaning.
@panthercult Well... as I posted in the movie discussion thread for discussing the movie...
Spoilermy guess, not confirmedMalkovich COULD be playing Franklin from the future, and that's what that figure is.
Ahh... I guess that makes some sense... I like the other way but your guess is more reasonable.
DC fans? And are you saying they've not heard of Fantastic Four? And that this thread weaving through a discussion completely related to the Fantastic Four is going to turn them off to it? Is it this thread's job to single handedly market the Fantastic Four movie to newbs? I honestly don't grasp your point here.
I'm saying that people looking to talk about the movie would very obviously go to the Movie thread to seek it out. The fact they're not in this instance is very obviously because the Marvel TOY thread is at the top of the page and where a large number (if not the majority) of Fwooshers check-in first and then very obviously talk about the movie in the first thread they see.
For instance, you guys are being blessed with my wealth of information, opinion, and ass-showing only because you all got lucky I saw a movie thread in the Recent Topics sub-header in a Toy forum I don't frequent since nobody makes 18th Marvel figures that are worth giving a shit about.
You guys can all thank your lucky stars I saw that!
Haw, definitely grateful.
But no, I've noticed the same thing with Star Wars (several sections below Marvel and DC) as well. I've even tried to get some members to visit the movie section with "hey, you definitely should weigh in over here" with a link in the Black Series thread when it got real movie/show heavy. I knew bringing them over would enrich the hell out of the movie section discussion, but never happened. Again, I don't know why. I love discussing and speculating, no matter where it is though so I just go with the flow anymore.

That may be the mechanism by which it works in English but genderizing objects happens in all languages used by human beings (afaik) because it's a root human trait.
I honestly only ever look at the grouping of Fwoosh Toy Forum. I never even see the non toy forums and mostly pretend they don't exist. It works for me when it comes to movies and TV as I don't feel like I've missed anything. Different strokes, different folks, and all that.
Also to keep it toy-connected I don't buy MCU figures anymore but I will buy a movie Thing figure because he looks great.
Hahahaha.
He does look pretty damn sharp.

there is a good deal of speculation that ...
You see it every so often where people say, "Take it over to this or that thread, please" and yes, it's usually the more appropriate place. But the reality is people want to be heard so they're going to post their stuff in the place with the most traffic. Oh well.
I'm kind of excited to see movie FF figures displayed next to my TB Galactus (the only Galactus I'll ever own). Come to think of it, I think it would be cool if he were flanked by male and female Silver Surfer. Again, I hope Hasbro brings their A-game with the figures. I also hope they don't pull a Deadpool and Wolverine and not even show the toys until a year after the movie is out. Remember when it was possible for movies and the toys to coincide? What happened?
