Honestly, I've never read an FF comic, so I have no idea what gender the robot is.
You know of many women named 'Herbert'?
Is that the robot's name or is it H.E.R.B.I.E.? I dunno man. It's got 'her' right there. 😀
But I dunno... having someone who has played blind before, playing blind again is as imaginative to me as when they cast Patrick Stewart as Charles.
Why is 'imaginative' of value when casting an actor?
Because otherwise is boring? I thought McAvoy did fantastic as Charles but I'd never seen him play bald before. Fans were clamoring for YEARS before the X-Men movie actually happened to have Stewart play Professor X. Because he's bald. That's all they needed. When it came time to cast Lex Luthor for BvS, who did fans want? The guy who'd played bald in Breaking Bad. I dunno, I've never cast a movie and I'm terrible at fan casting, but I recognize casting is a subtle art unto itself.
@tsi I've been tempted but I have a thing against Tom Cruise. Nothing to do with his beliefs or public behavior, just don't like him (to be fair, he has surprised me more than once). And I can't remember which MI was my last one... I think it was the John Woo one, which was probably the second? The one that would have been 45 minutes long had they not gone to town with slow motion.
I know the later ones were different and probably better, and maybe one day I'll have nothing I'd rather watch more.
@ru1977 Everyone after 2 had a lot more elements of the TV show in them which is deceptions and double crosses and surprises to catch the bad guy. They also become kinda of serialized from 3 on with story threads running through out. I don't think enough that you have to watch them all but it enhances them if you do. A movie series that definitely got better with time. I actually would love Mission Impossible figures now that I think about it.
You're welcome. And hey the most recent one from 2023 you get Peggy Carter meeting who we now know as Sue Storm so an MCU connection to boot!I haven't seen them. Sounds like a good enough place to start. Thanks.Have you seen the Mission Impossible movies? She has been in the last two or maybe three as a black market dealer. I liked her a lot in those. The one wildcard for me is Vanessa Kirby. I've never watched anything she's been in, to my knowledge. She seemed to take a prominent role in the trailer, as Sue Storm should. I'm sure I'll fall in love with her.
Maybe I'll try jumping on with the fourth one....
The John Woo and JJ Abrams M:I movies were the weakest of all of them, imo. It's been riding on a steady wave since Brad Bird and Christopher McQuarrie came on board.
That thumbnail already looks like a Mezco solicitation. This should be a layup for them.
I've never been into the Fantastic Four, but there's enough talent attached to this that I'll likely end up seeing it at some point. The Thing's animation looked a bit off to me, but maybe they're still tweaking it in post. The film is definitely going to be one of the more stylized films in the MCU up to this point.
To think people were fancasting Patrick Stewart as Chuck solely because he's bald is laughable, brother. It's simply serendipity that Patrick Stewart played Jean-Luc Picard with a high-minded dignity and staid emotional distance pretty much exactly like ProfX was (before recent writers made him into a bit of a dickhead) *and* was naturally bald. It's not like anybody fancasted Bruce Willis or Ed Harris for the role despite both being bald in the late 90s too.
And now I don't understand why casting has to be 'exciting' while also being 'a subtle art'. Get people that reasonably look like the character and can act the part; those are the only qualifiers for *good* casting.
I mean, shit; Pedro Pascal cast as Reed Richards IS both 'exciting' and 'imaginative' and pretty much everybody hates the idea despite loving Pedro overall because Pedro has never acted aloof, passionless, and emotionally-distant like Reed is generally portrayed.
Why do none of the uniforms match?
Love the trailer!
Love H.E.R.B.I.E.'s crazy eyes!
Love the Ben Cooper Thing Halloween costumes!
@normdapito @ru1977 Vanessa Kirby is absolutely brilliant in The Crown. She's right up there with the other actors in that series in terms of performance. Actors like Olivia Coleman, Jonathan Price, Helena Bonham Carter, Matt Smith, etc.
I suppose the argument for Natasha as Alicia is age appropriate with Bachrach and NY ness. The argument for her as HERBIE is comedic performance.

I'm probably doing nerds of the time a disservice, but from memory, it really seems like their thought went only as far as "bald genre actor, he's perfect!"

As far as blindness goes, anyone can reasonably look the part. Jessica Alba played blind before as well, that would be interesting. Also I didn't say casting needs to be exciting, but I appreciate imaginative casting. That is to say someone who doesn't spring to mind because they've played that kind of role before, or because they have a physical attribute that anyone can replicate with a razor. That's all.

I don't hate his casting even a little. Definitely appreciate that it was more imaginative than John Krasinski and Emily Blunt (it's perfect, they're already married!!!!).
@derrabbi I have heard good things about the crown but it's something I have absolutely no interest in. I know it's got an amazing cast though.
