I just watched the trailer for First Steps and oh man! The F.F. was my favorite team Marvel book as a kid of the 70's. They have captured-finally- Marvel's First Family-correctly! I got emotional while watching it. That's how much I love the F.F.. The Legends for this movie may get me to buy some MCU Legends again when we see them.
They got a lot of things right. Particularly, the Thing. I've never been satisfied with how he looks in previous films. THIS is how he should look in live action.
I love that, of all things, it has a vibe like the Incredibles, which was always where the other iterations should have gone. I think this one could really be outstanding. I don't know if it will get MCU back on track, but as a stand alone, it could be excellent.
Definitely a teaser trailer that keeps a lot of stuff close to the chest (which, given how much trailers give away today, I don't mind), but also shows some unexpected stuff too. Don't think I knew Malkovich was in the movie! I dig the Incredibles-esque retro futurist feel of it, and I think all the powers look really good (though they're still keeping Reed's a mystery for now, which doesn't surprise me). Comes out right before my birthday too! Excited to see the Legends for this one.
Yeah this looks right up my alley. Love the retro-future thing, the look of the FF, and that they're already established. I'm sure a ton of people have already commented on Thing's voice not having any "texture" - that's probably the only gripe I have from what they've shown. On the whole though this is very exciting. Love the FF.
@normdapito I feel exactly the same way! The Thing is really what got me emotional. I love that character so much and thanks for putting the trailer there! I never know how to do that stuff.
Sue's dialogue in the outro tells me they understand these characters. I've seen people complaining about the retro feel but F4 has always been this - they are good, decent, broken people aspiring to be aspirational while hiding the cracks and pain in that gleaming facade from the public view. They were from a time when we had hope despite so much being broken below the surface.
Joey Quinn was my dark horse hope for being cast as Wolverine because he is so unpredictable and feral on screen, but he doesn't have a line of dialogue in that trailer and I can already tell he's been perfectly cast. And man, that shot in the window of Ben. I haven't actually cared about a Marvel release in like five years and I'll go see this opening weekend. (Editing my own comment - I've actually really liked a lot of what Marvel's done since Endgame, but this is the first time in a while I have those BIG FEELS comic movies used to give all the time.)
If Malk is playing who the innernets say he is; that's a good portent of getting some good figures of his team-mates; at least a couple of whom are very rare in fully-articced action figure form.
And why is the Movie discussion not in the Movie thread? Let's keep shit where it belongs, people.
A lot of people don't go to the movie threads, and we don't have figures to discuss yet so we're just talking I guess.
Things voice bothered me briefly because I'm used to hearing Chiklis still, but that went away quickly and I realized I kinda like it. His body changed but inside he's the same person. The only thing that bothered me, but not really, was Quinn's hair heh.
I'll be VERY excited to get the four in figure form though.
It's ridiculously easy, and more intuitive and automatic than you think. I just copied and pasted the youtube link. The website does the work for you, embedding the video thumbnail into the post.@normdapito I feel exactly the same way! The Thing is really what got me emotional. l love Ebon Moss Bachrach in The Bear, and recognized him in Andor as well. Based on both of those performances, he's a great pick for Ben Grimm. Love the shot of him in the trench coat looking super sad.A lot of people don't go to the movie threads, and we don't have figures to discuss yet so we're just talking I guess.

Solid teaser.
I agree Thing needs a little gravel in his voice. One of my cinematic pet peeves is when a big character or monster has a normal voice. Hopefully they'll fine tune things in the coming months. However, they did do it with Smart Hulk in Endgame. Dude's 8 feet tall with gigantic lungs and larynx yet he sounds like straight-up Ruffalo? That was goofy as hell.
@normdapito I'll admit I watched Girls, mostly because at the time I was curious about the guy playing Kylo Ren and that was the only thing I could get at the time..but Ebon was on that too and extremely memorable. Severe depth on that guy, even when he is just standing around.
You can bet the toy fans will be using the above thumbnail when they are going over the heights of the eventual figures with a fine tooth comb. Remember, Thing shorter than Sue, Hasbro, Thing SHORTER than Sue.
@feces-flinger He's definitely in it, and Natasha Lyonne as well. I was wondering if one voices HERBIE though.
