I would STILL love if Hasbro did that Sam. Maybe with those new wings, they'll get around to it since they can reuse some stuff.
It would make sense if they're the same since Sam gave them to Joaquin on the show.
I pre-ordered the Joaquin Torres Falcon as I will always 100% buy a figure of a previously unmade character, even if it's MCU when I prefer comic. This one I didn't have to think about. Instant pre-order even at the $40 price tag.
I also didn't have to think about buying A-Train, I mean Sam-Cap. I just picked up a few of the Target exclusive deluxe comic version of Sam Cap for $10 each a few weeks ago. This was a flat no for me even if I can admire some of the things they did here. I like both head sculpts and changes to the wings, but it's probably not a purchase unless I eventually find it for like $12 and then it would be for the heads and wings.
The one that I'm torn on is Red Hulk. I'd love a nice pinless Red Hulk, but I prefer comic versions strongly. I have both of the previous Hasbro Red Hulks so will probably stick with those but again would probably jump on this if it hit a decent discount. Now if they had included a mustached face sculpt to stand in as Maverick? Then it would have been a full price pre-order for me.
I really hope that this movie does well, but the early word from screenings hasn't been particularly positive. I'd like to think that exposure to the characters in this movie might eventually help get us comic versions of Sabra and more Serpent Society. I don't think that I'd want movie versions though as they'd just be too plain.
I pre-ordered all 3. The MCU Marvel Legends well has been so dry for so long, I'll take what I can get. It's funny that it's 3 Deluxe figures (and maybe the Leader at some point) instead of a full wave. Because I've been in this whole daze of not knowing where Hasbro is gonna go from here with the MCU. We're clearly not getting live action Disney Plus waves, were not going back and filling holes with missing characters through Infinity Saga style anniversary sets, and then the Deadpool 3 wave was just the 3 figures but anyone else would have been spoilery. So I was sort of hoping this CA4 wave would give some idea as to what to expect from now on. Are we gonna get back to normal with each movie getting its own wave or not. And yet here we are with the question still kinda unanswered. Because yea we didn't get an actual wave BUT each of these figures are understandably too large to not be Deluxe. Sooooooo TBD I guess.
Are we gonna get back to normal with each movie getting its own wave or not.
I would say yes because we didn't get any this year because it's the lightest MCU year to date, but one thing gives me pause--why was there no Deadpool & Wolverine wave with a BAF? Seems like there was PLENTY of character fodder in that film for a full wave.
We got a Headpool and Wolverine in civvies figure, and yet it's not hard to list 5 to 10 alternatives to that which should have sold pretty well. Lady Deadpool, AoA Wolverine, comic-accurate short Wolverine, Cavillrine, Cassandra Nova, Gambit, Blade, Elektra, Sabretooth, etc etc, and then pick your favorite Deadpool variants. Several of those would have sold MUCH better than Headpool probably will, particularly Cavillrine and short Hugh Jackman.
But then that's not a BAF issue, that's just puzzling as to why Hasbro didn't cash in on the biggest MCU film in years. Plenty of toyetic characters there that I'm baffled as to why we don't have figures for.
Well - the word we got from the Hasbro team was that they weren't allowed to see anything from the movie until it was shown at ComiCon - outside of the scenes shown in the trailer. So when trying to put a product line together they literally didn't know what was in the movie. They weren't given any specs on what variant Wolverines would be featured, what other characters would be a factor - nothing. They were given early shots of Deadpool, the Wolverine costume (with the sleeves) and some hints at Logan and I guess Headpool.
They didn't have enough information to prepare an entire wave and get it into production to coincide with the movie. That's why. It was Marvel's call and Hasbro had to live with it.
Yea Deadpool I can understand. All the variants of DP and Wolvie as well as Blade Elektra, etc. Would have all been too spoilery for the first wave. The only one they could have probably done was Cassandra but Hasbro really has a thing against Villians. I just hope we get a second wave down the line but with the way they've been lately I don't know what to expect.
I understand that the MCU took a bit of a nose dive for a minute and that likely effected current figure releases. But what I'll never understand is why they would hype us up for years about "having time to fill in holes." Or "We have a spreadsheet full of characters we want to do." And then during all this down time we get... Outriders and that's it.
So idk, I'd just like some sign that we can get back to how things were for the MCU figures.
Also, I don't collect Star Wars but from an outside point of view, they're getting waves for every Disney Plus show, movie, past present etc. And Star Wars has put out wayyy more stinkers than the MCU imo. So how are they able to keep the figures running when our guys can't?
I just don't understand why if the "comic vs film IP confusion" issue is a thing of the past, and since they are not getting the proper info to make film toys, why Hasbro/Marvel/Disney doesn't just make a comic BAF/retro card wave as a companion piece to the film toys. Cross marketing and all that.
Deadpool could easily have a comic wave with just the Mercs For Money alone.
A comic Cap wave would be a perfect place for 70s Falcon, Isaiah Bradley, Diamondback, etc.
If you collect both MCU and comic stuff, more bang for your buck.
If you only collect one or the other, each side gets something.
As for the topic at hand, I pre-ordered Sam and Joaquin. Both look great. Red Hulk just isn't doing it for me. I'll have to see it in person.
EDITED TO ADD: The rumored Crossbones and Constrictor 2-pack is probably a companion set to the release of BNW, but they could easily have gone into a BAF/Retro Card wave.
Agreed. I remembered when Civil War came out and there was the movie wave with the Giant-Man BAF, but also that separate comic Cap wave earlier in the year. Seems like that’d be a no brainer as long as you anchored it with some big names relevant to the movie.
First time in a while I didn't immediately jump on a preorder for MCU figures, which is odd since Falcon and the Winter Solder is one of those shows I have a real soft spot for - the chemistry between the actors was so great.
I'll definitely pick up the new Falcon because I like supporting when they make previously unmade characters. Hesitant on Sam because I liked the one we got recently VERY much but haven't had enough time to enjoy the figure, if that makes any sense. Like I wanna mess with the last one before I order a new one.
The Rulk looking more like Ruffalo than Ford is throwing me. It almost feels like a generic figure. I guess I kinda want to see him on screen before i get the figure.
I think Hasbro's handling of MCU figures has been a case of lack of supply shrinking my demand. It feels like they aren't getting to some characters I've been hoping for, and yeah that's fine, I don't feel they owe me anything, but my Marvel collection is still full of contingencies. There are certain characters that, if they never do figures of (and some haven't appeared on camera yet), then I'll feel like the collection will never be complete. And I think I've been feeling that way more and more. So, yeah, the movies haven't been as great as the best parts of what I remember from the older releases, but what's soured me more than anything is not being able to have a better representation of them on the shelves. And that's fine, Hasbro has their numbers and such. I dunno. I feel like I'm getting close to giving up on the line.
I was obviously happier when we were getting seemingly any character like Jimmy Wu and such being possible in the line. But if due to the MCU becoming less popular I cannot count on say....the Warriors 3 or Darcy or various side characters like that, that's fine. What I cannot excuse is unmade villains. Make the frigging villains! I am still annoyed at the 5 main antagonists missing from the Infinity Saga era still and even more annoyed we get situations like High Evolutionary doesn't get made. That is a bigger turn off for the line to me than anything else. Main hero and Main villain are the bare minimum I ask for in movie figures. Hasbro started making this right and we were doing well with keeping current with the new villains. But if this becomes an issue again where I end up with a bunch more missing villains, then I may call it quits eventually
Disney/Marvel - We want you to support our movie/tv show with toys.
Hasbro - Great! Who are the main protagonists and adversaries?
Disney/Marvel - We can't tell you.

Never thought much about this. Villains we have figures for are in bold:
- Iron Man (2008) - Iron Monger
- The Incredible Hulk (2008) - Abomination
- Iron Man 2 (2010) - Whiplash
- Thor (2011) - Loki
- Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) - Red Skull
- The Avengers (2012) - Loki
- Iron Man 3 (2013) - Aldrich Killian
- Thor: The Dark World (2013) - Malekith
- Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) - Pierce
- Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) - Ronan
- Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) - Ultron
- Ant-Man (2015) - Yellowjacket
- Captain America: Civil War (2016) - Zemo
- Doctor Strange (2016) - Kaecilius
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) - Ego
- Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) - Vulture
- Thor: Ragnarok (2017) - Hela
- Black Panther (2018) - Killmonger
- Avengers: Infinity War (2018) - Thanos
- Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) - Ghost
- Captain Marvel (2019) - Yon-Rogg
- Avengers: Endgame (2019) - Thanos
- Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) - Mysterio
- Black Widow (2021) - Taskmaster
- Shang-Chi (2021) - The Mandarin
- Eternals (2021) - Kro
- Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) - Green Goblin
- Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) - Scarlet Witch
- Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) - Gorr
- Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) - Namor
- Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023) - Kang
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023) - High Evolutionary
- The Marvels (2023) - Dar-Benn
- Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) - Cassandra Nova
Some of those are debatable--for example you can say Dormammu was the main antagonist of Doctor Strange, Supreme Intelligence was the main antagonist of Captain Marvel, or General Dreykov was the main antagonist of Black Widow, but we barely saw any of those on-screen so it's hard to count them over their minions that were in the films beginning to end.
We'll never get Killian, Malekith, Pierce, Kaecilius, or Ego. Abomination, Whiplash, High Evolutionary, Dar-Benn, and Cassandra Nova are definitely all oversights. We've gotten 24 villains and missed 10 with 5 of those not being toyetic. We didn't get Abomination and Whiplash because those were the dark days, and the most recent three I can't really account for, particularly High Evolutionary as you noted.

Iger wants the toys, but when they involve spoilers they almost ALWAYS get leaked and ruin something. So Feige stopped sharing that info with the toy companies. It is what it is...
