Plastic cape on Doom means I'd possibly eventually replace it with a good wired one when I have extra cash. Cheap flimsy Mattel styled cloth cape on this Doom means I'd HAVE to replace it ASAP.

I think this is a rare easy pass for me. Taskmaster is not a character I care enough about to upgrade and the Doom cape is pitiful.

Norman is the only one I'd really want but I have the old one and I think that is good enough for the character.

…. and they triple down on a not classic classic Doom leaving the chai mail and grieve straps. Ugh. His armor is medieval like it isn’t actually medieval armor

The refusal to make a real classic Doom is weird at this point. I wouldn’t even mind a Medieval suit of armor version of Doom, but I’d make it like ceremonial armor with even more design flourishes. Fur collared cape and such.

Don’t really need a new Taskmaster but Iron Patriot and the Doombot are great. So glad Norman comes with an unmasked head this time.

But which gender would a Cabal Loki be?

Loki showed up as both female and male through the time that the Cabal met.

See Marvel feels they need to change everything. Making Loki transgender; something he’s only been for …. 1600 years or so.

I can definitely commiserate with not digging the actual stories/situations that spawned Iron Patriot, and from an actual character perspective Norman should always be the Goblin (or, heh, dead), buuuuuut I love the visual concept of an evil “patriotic” Iron Man, and the idea of a psychopathic business bro seizing power behind a false mask of flag-waving patriotism while not-so-secretly being a destructive fascist feels, well, relevant at this particular point in history.
At any rate, Iron Patriot looks cool, and I am very excited to have various heroes pound the crap out of him.

Completely agree! I love the concept of Iron Patriot. False patriotism to cover up fascism. Definitely as relevant now as ever.

Absolutely love this set. I loved Dark Reign and the Dark Avengers. Excellent stories and fun character designs. This set is a must-have for me. I want multiple sets.

Iron Patriot is one of my favorite villains. I am so excited to finally get a great comic version of this armor. Need him for the Dark Avwngers and just as hand candy posing in the living room for the heroes to beat up! The figure looks like a new reuse of Extremis Iron Man with a lot of new parts—looks like at least the helmet, upper torso, pauldrons, and thighs.

Taskmaster is another one of my favorite villains. Such an amusing cynical character. The Vulcan base body is perfect for Taskmaster, who will now finally have the bulk and articulation that he needs.

Doom is cool. I would love to someday finally get a classic armor for Doom, but this version does look really nice with the cloth cape and that awesome Doombot head.

The four pack that became a five pack that became a three pack.

Very nice looking. If I was a comic figure guy, I wouldn't hesitate. As it is, I wish IP was more movie passable. And I would keep Taskmaster as well, but already have a Doom that passes for live action to my eye. Ah well, sticking with my Mark 3 repaint for now and holding out for the Thunderbolts Taskmaster figure.

Sorry, Ru. I know you are a big Dark Avengers fan. Based on the variation in the artwork, there is definitely a strong case to be made that comic Iron Patriot could have been made using parts of MCU Iron Man Mark 3, 4, or 6. Alternatively, there is a strong case to use the comic Extremis Armor or Pentagon Armor. Just so much variation in how the armor was drawn.

Bummer that this version does not appeal to you. Maybe there will be a Dark Avengers film someday.

Definitely getting this.  Even though I have various Taskmasters and Dooms, I love the characters and the updates here are more than enough to make me want them again.  And I don't know what it is, but I have always been a sucker for the Iron Patriot armor.

I agree with this -- it's not a truly classic Doom, and I really want one at some point. I can't see them not doing one eventually. There will be a lot of FF focus during the MCU movie year, so maybe then? There is no perfect Doom figure yet. I bought the Mezco one, which is a ton of fun, but still doesn't get me to that sweet Kirby or Byrne nostalgia place I want to be. I think the closest is the now-vintage ToyBiz FF animated figure.

That being said, I'm Team Doom, and there is enough newness here for me to want it -- the shorter skirt, simpler "cape brads" without the double chain, the novelty of a cloth cape, and a Doombot head together make this a must purchase for me. Plus he's packed with my next-favorite villain Taskmaster, who's receiving a much needed body upgrade and has a less goofy head sculpt. And a quiver!

@akatsuki i genuinely appreciate that! But I am very happy for anyone that likes this style. Like I said, if I was a comic style collector, I'd be very happy with that version.

If they ever do a Dark Avengers movie, I will be thrilled. And I hope you think of me, heh. But I suspect Thunderbolts may cover any DA concepts. And cinematically, that will probably be fine. But I will still yearn for a barely-rehabilitated psychopath leading a team of criminals posing as heroes, in a mostly red patriotic repaint of Iron Man. The IM3 armor does not in any way cut it, heh.

@ru1977 What about the Iron Patriot 2 figure from Endgame? I really like that figure. I sometimes use it as a stand in for comic Iron Patriot because the heavy over the top weapons seems like the kind of thing that Osborn would consider doing. More weapons to make up for the fact that his suit is not as sophisticated as Iron Man’s armor.

@akatsuki that makes total sense and I wish I could do that but I'd always see it as Rhodey. It's not as bad but comparable to using something like a Black Widow head for a star wars custom.... I'm just never going to see that as anything but Scarlet Johanson, heh. That issue is entirely mine, but I agree being over gunned like that feels like a Norman thing to do.

I also always liked how his chest beam, since it has ten sides basically, is far weaker than Iron Man's.

I can go either way on cloth goods. Most of the time they look lame, but they allow way more range of motion in the limbs. Hasbro does a decent job when the cloth just needs to drape, like on Darth Vader. I like those capes a lot. I don't love their cloaks, or hoods worn up. Doom's still got a plastic hood, so I dig that. I have Mezco Doom, and I like the cape, but I don't love the positioning of the wire, or the lack of wire across the bottom seam. I just pose vanilla for lack of space, and a wire on the bottom would help with a natural looking drape. I don't think Hasbro will ever budget for wired capes. Third party capes tend to cost just as much as the figure that's gonna wear it.

I like wired capes, but I feel like we've gone a bit overboard with them. There's something to be said of weighted capes, too. Hasbro's Darth Vader capes are excellent. It'd be nice to get a Batman with a weighted cape that draped around his shoulders.

I will buy this set, mostly because of Taskmaster. He looks great. Has all the right accessories.

Doctor Doom looks just ok. His cloak looks like a cheap rag. No wire on the sides, nothing. Like...even Mcfarlane capes look better (new Darkseid). And again, they put an armybuilder head in the set. WHY? Just reissue Doom separately with Doom Bot head sculpt and people will buy many of them. Don't you learn anything? Ugh.

Don't care about Iron Patriot. He looks like a cheap childs toy anyway. It's too bright and toyish. Norman head sculpt is great, though.

Hasbro has been good about giving modern Iron Man armors the appropriate darker colors, so why they went with such a loud color scheme for Iron Patriot is confusing. If the reds were toned down and the blue a bit more muted, I think it'd look nicer. Might just be a lighting thing since the in-box shot looks nicer.

Despite that, I still think this is a really great looking boxset. I'm very excited to replace that rubber knee'd Bucky Cap Taskmaster they did. Already got a Doom, but sure, I'll take another. Especially since I can display one as a Doombot.

There's always a bit of a twinge with a new reveal I don't want - partly sad that I don't get new cool stuff, but these days more relief that I'm saving some cash. If the rumoured Constrictor was in this, I might have grumbled and bit the bullet, but I have no call for a cloth caped Doom, and I can cope with the Iron Patriot that I didn't really want last time either.

Taskmaster I'd have picked up single, but I don't need him for 3 pack costs.

Good to have the Fwoosh back! (And it looks like log-in is way less fiddly too, which is nice...)
