The PR geniuses at Hasbro/Marvel really did bugger this one, forcing Hasbro to debut 10 days after SDCC. With weirdly early/bad product photos with incorrect labeling. Do enough people really read Collider to cross-promote the toys?
Excited for the figures, though. Gwen also has a new sad face.
Do more people read Collider than read the toy news sites that report on the Hasbro booth at SDCC?
The first Spider-Verse wave seems to have sold really well. I get the sense that these waves more than any others in the line are aiming for a wider audience than the "normal" ML collector. I think Hasbro knows they're competing with Figuarts, Mafex, etc for collectors' dollars for these figures, and that they are the budget offering (not an insult, I think the figures look great for 1/2 - 1/3 the price of the competition). They're expecting people with more casual interest and kids to pick these up, and I'm assuming these are *not* Fan Channel only.
So no Spider-Man Unlimited in this after all? That's good, because I really dislike these stylized figures. Hopefully he'll be a standard Legends-style figure that I'll happily pick up.
Definitely a few cheap moves in the wave- packing Lyla with Gwen, releasing a full color Hobie head while not simultaneously re-releasing the full color Spider-Punk, etc., but it's mostly a good wave. Definitely in for Spidey India and Prowler Miles, and heavily considering Gwen, 2099, and Hobie (might wait for a sale on them though). I think I'm good on ITS Miles and Peter, but if they ever hit a deep discount, I might pull the trigger. I like the jacketed Miles we got from ITS before; just stands out as a more unique look to me.
I get that Peter Parker using 25% of pre existing tooling makes sense from an aesthetic standpoint - but it would have been a home run to re-do the body with painted weblines like the No Way Home Spider-Men to go along with the super articulation. The sculpted weblines just shouldn't be done anymore, with how great the printing technology has gotten.
I'm interested in Miguel and Pavitr but why is Miguel so light skinned?
I’m very pleased to see the inverted hinge abdomen on the Peter figure, but not getting it on Miguel too is lazy, and he really warranted a whole new torso with butterfly shoulders so big fail there - if I get him it will be simply because I don’t have any 2099 figures and he’ll be cheaper than an import.
Prowler Miles looks excellent and is an instabuy, it’s a shame the regular Miles and Gwen will all come down to how flimsy or sturdy they are as to whether they’re worth getting, as opposed to opting for Sentinel KO’s off of eBay.
I’m a sucker so I’ll buy these figures again for the new alternate heads. Spider India is a definite purchase, as are blonde Spidey and Miles Prowler.
I'm interested in Miguel and Pavitr but why is Miguel so light skinned?
Both Gwen and Hobie being in weird colors makes me think they're trying to mimic scenes from the movie that had moody lighting, though I'm failing to come up with the specific scene from the one time I saw it.
Miguel doesn't have his cape this time and Hasbro actually went to the effort to fill the holes!
He and Hobie also both have watches this time. Gwen didn't qualify for one. *spoiler* 😉
I've been checking Target and Walmart to see if these go up, so if anyone spots them on there LMK!
I ordered my Spider-Man India from Amazon and am done. Now I can just wait for the movie.
So... I think it was supposed to originally ship much later but just got the Amazon notice that my Pavitr figure will arrive from Amazon today... so, that's something. I only ordered him since I figure I can fudge him into the back of a regular Spider-variant display
Got the whole wave yesterday from Amazon (minus the OG Miles) and in-package they look great!
Miles G. Morales is a cool new sculpt and Pavitr looks great. One of them came with his hair in different positions and I'm not sure which I like more, since one is more on the side revealing his full face.
The paint on these looks super clean. I like Gwen's new hair and Peter B. is simple but fun. And the final Gwen did come with a watch.
Miguel's face looks great on the back of the box but in-package doesn't feel totally on-model? Not sure.
Not sure I'll keep purple Hobie but definitely glad Hasbro gave us two unmasked heads.
I received all 3 that I ordered from Amazon today: Pavitr, Gwen and Prowler Miles. SM India is my favorite but his card arrived bent to shit. It's definitely the best figure of the 3, though. They all seem a little undersized to me. Prowler Miles' head is especially tiny and he's unusually "twiggy" even for this style of figure.
