And this look for USAgent was kinda interesting. Reminiscent of Judge Dread.
Wait - who said the latest Spidey Retro wave didn't sell? They hit clearance at Target because Target clearances everything too fast (to make room for empty shelves 🙄 ) but they all moved pretty well - even Last Stand and Spider-Shot. Tombstone may have been the overall slowest.
Now the Chasm/Elektra/Miles wave, that seems to have fared a little worse.
Last time I was at my Ollie's, they were loaded with them. I saw them all but Chasm and Ben Reilly Spider Man(I think).
That's not the LATEST Spidey Retro wave, though, as I specified.
I've never been a U.S. Agent fan so take this with a grain of salt, but it's truly wild to me that they'd release a character whose last figure is 30% off on Amazon right now.
EXACTLY THIS. And his Walmart MCU variant flopped terribly and is currently 50% off and has gone as low as 80% off. Waste of a slot if true.
Mandarin would be interesting, as I'm not sure which look they'd go for. I suppose I prefer his armored Acts of Vengeance costume. I think his robed looks just won't translate to exciting action figures. His 4" figure from the Iron Man line wasn't bad.
This is a really good look for him. When did he wear that?
@fletch I believe a version of it only appeared in this line of children's books.

What Spidey retro wave came after this one? I'm drawing a blank.

Hallow's Eve, Tombstone, Jack O'Lantern, Scarlet/Assassin/Last Stand Spiders-Men.
@h-bird Damn, I somehow combined those in my head. I could swear I saw Tombstone at Ollie's though. Probably just getting senile.

Enter the Mandarin. It was an Iron Man miniseries.

Eh. All kinds of figures/characters get marked down. Not hard to imagine they'd make another USAgent. He is going to be in the Thunderbolts movie next year, so Hasbro squeezing out another comic figure of him isn't too far fetched.
Iron Man could be the Neo-Classic armor with slimmer boots and with gold instead of yellow. Which is a large want of mine.

Classic white boots and gloves Punisher using the new body from the 2pk is a no-brainer.
I generally like that armor because it reminds me heavily of Samurai armor.
Did Chinese warriors ever wear Samurai-style armor? China and Japan have mostly been enemies for the past 150+ years, but they've been influencing each other for thousands of years so I wouldn't be surprised if they both used similar armor during the age of the Samurai.
I think China has a much deeper history than Japan. They were likely wearing armor before Japan.

If we can't get a robed version, I agree this might be the next best look.
I know the articulation would be hampered by the robe, but to me it is the preferred look for the character and actually would make him stand out on the shelves as The Mandarin, so I still would like that the best.
Mandarin is one of the few characters that I will be happy with almost any look we get. Green and purple, shirtless tatted torso, green robe, blue armor- Sure, I'll take any of those. Ideally we will get both a silver age and bronze/modern age version eventually.

Japanese Samurai armor definitely borrowed from Chinese armor styles. China, Korea & Japan all borrowed liberally from each other in their many centuries of feuding with each other.
This particular armor on the Mandarin figure is largely Chinese in its look, with the exception of the skirt piece that hews more Japanese. Still, this isn't based on a specific armor style, but seems to be an amalgamation of various designs and given a modern flare. This actually works for a character like Mandarin, in my opinion.
If I were to choose between the 90s animated Mandarin and the green robe Mandarin, I'd choose the 90s animated Mandarin on the Iron Man retro card first, then the green robe Mandarin can come afterwords in a Build-A-Figure wave or some other release.
