You need to push the head lower to make it look more natural and less oversized.
The head is just too big. Would be lying if I said I was thrilled after paying a hefty price for it but I’ll eventually swap it. I messed around with the placement/neck pegs but not much that can be done.
So... I don't know why I bothered watching that honestly - but I did. I got really irritated though when the guy brought up the question about chase variants being characters people wanted and didn't want to chase and Todd's answer boiled down to "suck it, I do what I want".
But honestly his attitude about 'I don't understand why people spend their energy complaining - spend your time, money and energy on things you enjoy'. That's fine... and I do. But the issue is he has a monopoly on characters that I like but he makes product that I don't like and markets things in a way that I don't like. So I l want figures of DC characters but I literally CANNOT buy DC Comics figures that I enjoy because he doesn't make them. And he's not interested in listening to what might make me like them better. So I do spend my money on things I enjoy - and he doesn't get much of it at all. But I do wish there was an option for me to buy figures of DC Characters that I actually like.
Sigh...
Kilowog looks good but should have been taller. I'm waiting for a sale, it's definitely coming.
Ugh. Disappointed he doubles down on the female characters stuff from before.
I'm all but checked out on Todd and DC Multiverse but I'm convinced he's our only outlet for Batman Forever figures. When he gives us that wave and if he doesn't make a key character a Platinum chase, then I can take them and run.
Dusting off my DCUC.
Just letting ya know pal, Beast Kingdom are giving us atleast Batman and Riddler, most likely EOY so there's that
Ooooh, they're doing Riddler too?? That's exciting! Their DAH line has been getting better with each new release. That modern-suit Batman from the Flash movie is like a mini Hot Toy with the likeness and details.
That interview bums me out mostly because the thing that would loop me back into buying more Multiverse figures are classic representations of women characters. Raven and Donna are... they're not bad action figures, but not the versions I want to display, but I'd drop preorder money on a classic (or even Injustice!) Dinah, Harley, Powergirl, Hawkgirl, Fire and Ice, Zatanna, heck how about Lois Lane? Bums me out that he's so confident they're not worth producing.
Same with villains, regardless of gender. I keep eyeballing Captain Cold and Heat Wave but they're not the versions I really want. They're pretty steeply discounted so I'm tempted, but I'm also not in love with the line anymore. (I'm actively bummed at the Superman/Krypto combo. Krypto being a statue was eh, but I didn't realize how bad the ROM and how just... weirdly proportioned Clark was when I bought him online. I do like a few of his earlier Superman figures quit a bit though.)
Yeah, I’m cooling big-time on McFarlane. His resistance to female characters, the chase/variant figures, platinum figures… it’s getting to where this isn’t fun. I cancelled 3/4 of my preorders for the Plastic Man wave, and I’ve passed up other ones at Target/Walmart. I’m actively irritated with him, and it’s affecting my desire (and willingness) to buy his product.
Yeah I only buy classic version of characters so if he continues with the Crisis line im all in but endless Batman figures are not for me

Oh yeah, they've a teaser of his headsculpt on their social media page's, looks great great. Also doing Batman and Robin Clooney too

Had this exact same reaction in the moment. I know why I watched the interview…because I love these characters so much that I spent almost an hour looking for a reason to continue to purchase figures of them. I actually feel worse about it as Todd doubled down on every poor decision.
When your interviewers gloss over the $40 unpainted Superman belt while gushing over the articulation and sculpt, you aren’t in the place to get constructive feedback.
McFarlane Toys is an odd duck in a lot of ways. They're kinda like the theatrical punk kid in high school who you really want to like, and has a lot of redeeming qualities about them, but they're just so stand-offish and passive aggressive that it's hard to fully root for them.
Some of the decisions and licenses they make are really intriguing. Their Walking Dead figures were pretty great for a while. The Game of Thrones figures were pretty darn good and had lots of potential if they'd kept going. Same with the Harry Potter figures, and ditto the Avatar (Last Airbender and Cameron, really). I think the lines where there's clearly some collaboration and Todd is reined in a bit, like on Blue Avatar, the product is really strong and sells pretty well.
DC feels like another beast entirely. I know he was on his best behavior to begin with so as not to upset anyone higher up and be able to keep the line, but once that watchful eye went away, his choices have been more and more....interesting and it does feel he's getting a bit too big for his britches. One of the dangers to running a small, independently owned company like Todd does is that, once you get that taste of huge recognition and power, it can kinda warp you a bit. Whereas it felt like early McFarlane made the cool, niche stuff he was passionate about for that niche audience, now it feels like he's making that cool, niche stuff only and telling anyone who asks for anything else to suck it. Like that aforementioned punk kid feeling like he's getting revenge on his bullies in a way. Very much a "my way or the highway" kinda vibe, and taking weird pleasure in dangling this thing in front of you.
Don't get me wrong, I know that obscure characters don't always sell. It's the price we fans gotta pay for liking someone who isn't a huge focus. Some of my favorite characters are the obscure ones who almost never get any representation merch-wise. Scarecrow is my all time favorite villain, and up until recently, it was slim pickings. I'm lucky that there seems to be more a focus on him in recent years, and it's just pure dumb luck that he fits Todd's sorta spooky aesthetic. But there's other characters I love too that I feel would've gotten at least one figure by now in anyone else's hands.
We're in a weird place in the world, where scarcity seems to be King. We love short videos, short TV shows/seasons. We're all about Snapchat, or NFTs, which are made in small batches and often worth a lot of money. And it's bled over into collectibles too- it started as Con exclusives, and now there are NFT toys- McFarlane, Funko, etc. People love to feel like they've accomplished something by getting something that's rare or expensive or what have you. Ultimately, it's the wallet that talks. Sure, people will always snatch something up because they're told it's rare- either for their own collection or to try and flip. But I do think that collectors will grow tired of the the literal and the figurative chase. I've already kinda seen it- there's been a bunch of Platinum figures near me that have just kinda sat there for months now. Sure, some of it may be the character/variant itself, but still. Collecting is starting to feel more like a job than a hobby- you have to go out of your way to really find something you want, or spend 2-3 times what it's really worth. Or you may luck out and find a chase, and if it's one you don't want, you try to sell or barter for something you do, to varying success. It's exhausting. And yeah, it's a lie to say Todd is the only one doing it, but he's certainly one of the worst offenders. I love the Multiverse figures- when they're well made, they're well made. But I can certainly feel the line morphing into something else, something a bit sinister, and I'm not sure if I like it. With any luck, the people will vote with their wallets or make their opinions known, and Todd will catch wind and change. If not, then I'm sure the DC line will make its way into the hands of someone else eventually who does care.
I watched the Brad interview and it left me frustrated. I respect Todd for being a maverick and one of if the not the only Image guy to not go back and work for Marvel and DC. His first Spawn toys were revolutionary and the Spawn character itself was legendary as far as longevity.
I understand that Batman product. We complain about too many Batman but Batman figures always sell well. I never see them peg warming. The lack of female characters is frustrating as well. I do believe female figures sell less than male figures. Whenever I go to Walmart or Target, it's usually the female figures from a wave that peg warm hard. The retro carded Lady Jaye from Classified Series is the only Joe I see at Walmart. The Drowned was peg warming for a LONG time. Catwoman from The Batman is peg warming. Cyclone from Black Adam is still clogging the pegs and she was released almost two years ago. I'm sure if a classic Black Canary, New 52 Wonder Woman, and Jessica Cruz got released, they'll sell well.
Chase figures are ok to a point. The green skinned long haired Superman is cool. Super Powers painted Wonder Woman is cool. Making a long desired look a chase variant is not cool.
I want Todd to continue doing Super Powers, rerelease DC Collectibles animated figures(BTAS, TNBA, etc), Batman '66/The New Adventures of Batman, etc and let someone else have the adult toyline.
My only real complaint with McFarlane these days is that it seems to be taking longer for waves to come out between pre-ordering and the actual release date. I have multiple pre-orders of McFarlane DC figures at multiple sellers that seem to be taking forever to come out.
