figma’s Terraformar came to my house last week and I’ve had the week to play with him. Let’s clear out the 800-pound gorilla in the room — yes, his right antenna broke right out of the box. I’ll have to buy a pin vise, drill a hole, and plug it or a replacement in. Yes, this sucks. No, I’m not heart broken over it. My S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider v3 did a shelf dive and broke his antennae — yeah, that broke my heart.
As mentioned in an earlier Morning Rush, he’s from a manga and is some sort of cockroach turned humanoid from Mars. For those collectors that are always looking to add strange creatures or army build strange creatures into their collections, the Terraformar is for you. This is a great concept and the figure came out great!
I can’t compare the figure to the manga since I haven’t read it, but this is a fantastic sculpt. It’s huge, powerful, and looks out of this world! Great! Considering that the monster is out of this world! I’ve spent the last week looking at the sculpt, studying it, and really enjoying how the figure looks. I was concerned about a figma figure being this large, but it really works well!
The Articulation is standard figma, and, as I mentioned in the paragraph above, I was concerned about the size of the figure, the tightness of the joints, and the ability to hold a pose. Fortunately, these are not issues. Unlike figma Iron Man, there’s no flopping under its own weight. The other concern that I had about the sculpt and articulation was if there were going to be sacrifices made, for the figure to make some of the advertised poses, would there be extreme changes made to the sculpt or articulation scheme? There were none!
The figure comes with the staple extra hands and stand, and, yes, I know in the pictures that an S.H. Figuarts stand was used. We are photographers of convenience; it was closest to reach. The figure comes with this fantastic, great club, and I mean this this is fantastic. In that Dark Souls or Dark Souls 2 world that I want to build with the GUTS action figures, this would be a great club placeholder. In fact, the Terraformar would make a great character for them to fight. Or, if you want, make this guy part of your 3A Martian worlds. Maybe have your Marvel Legends fight him, either a Mole Man minion — some sort of Asgardian troll, or some kind of alien that the Skrulls or Kree sent to wreak havoc with your Marvels.
It’s rare that I gush over the paint work, and there is very little paint on this figure. It’s produced in this really cool dark brown, kinda shiny, kindy pearlescent color that really pops. It’s really cool under the right light, and it makes it look all creepy. It kinda reminds me of the cockroaches we had flying around our house in college. Those suckers were creepy and huge, and when they flew… well, it made for some interesting times around the keg.
This figure is a lot fun to play with. Tons of posability, great extras, and he fits into a ton of different collections — which reminds me, my figma and S.H. Figuarts shelf need to be split in two. Things are getting crowded.
