I bought this figure off fellow Fwoosher Industrial some time ago, and I meant to throw up a review for the Fwoosh late last year/early this year. But then I got distracted, toys got delayed, and, in the end, I brain-farted. But now is the time to review this lovely figure from Bandai’s S.H. Figuarts line.
There was supposed to be video with this review, but my son and I are learning how to use the functions on our camera, and the video is completely out of focus. And as I am pressed for time, we’ll publish without the video. I’d also like to take a quick minute to thank my son once again who is helping and getting into snapping pics and shooting videos — it’s cool and fun to enjoy this hobby with him.
As I mentioned, this is by no means a new figure and even trying to approach this review as “ooh and aaah new” is futile. I already covered Goku, and the two figures are very similar in sculpt. I love the sculpt; there’s just something about Piccolo, and I want to pose him in all my collections and all my pictures. He’s got great colors, they pop, and he looks amazing. And with his constant scowl, there are so many options!
If I remember correctly, I was able to lift this figure off Indy because he wanted the SDCC Piccolo, which was sporting a different paint/color scheme. The SDCC belt was blue, the green a bit darker, the purple darker and the yellow on the arms is pink. The SDCC color scheme represents the anime (cartoon) colors while the figure reviewed here has the manga (comic) colors. Personally, I could really care less. I just want Piccolo and since he’s represented with different colors, it’s all canon.
I love the articulation on these S.H. Figuarts figures. Yes, they are formulaic. At this point there is nothing new or groundbreaking. The formula works, it’s solid, and you can pretty much pose these figures any way you want. The hinged crotch makes things like the baggy pants easy to pose where in other figures they would be hindering the full range of motion. These figures are hand candy.
By now, tooting the S.H. Figuarts accessory horn is getting tiresome, but I have to mention that the extra heads, hands, crossed arms, and cape are simply awesome. I love them all and it makes for great play and great posing. I only wish that Bandai would supply a Figma-styled bag and a Takara/Figma tray for the hands. I could just buy Ziplocs, but since Banda’s gone this far, why not go the extra mile?
If you are collecting or interested in starting to collect Dragonball Z figures, then you have to get Piccol; he’s a must have. If you enjoy action figures, then I highly recommend this figure. You can still get him today at:
