Oh happy days! I love it when the 200x designs seep into the modern Masters of the Universe worlds, whether as part of MOTUC or in the comics, or nonexistent cartoons. Many of you may have missed the recent announcement, but 200x Tri-Klops will be making a visit in DC Comics’ Masters of the Universe comic book, and he looks fab!
As soon as I saw this picture I immediately went to my toy shelf, pulled down my 200x Tri-Klops custom, and started playing with it. I’ve no need to cover the glory of Tri-Klops since we’ve hit him enough in Fwoosh Flash Fictions and First Looks. He is a glorious character. His eyes! Oh, those evil cyclopean eyes are just a wonder to look at!
Back in the day, Four Horsemen Studios had concept art of the 200x line on their website, and I was quick to download these lovely pictures. As you can see, Tri-Klops remains true to his original look with just enough of a modern update to make him look sharp. The toy for the line was arguably one of the better ones, even though it suffered from an over-stylized buck and a lack of serious articulation.
I took it upon myself to fix that. I took the 200x parts and put them on a Mattel DC Superman base figure. I added some sculpt and paint in certain areas and voila! Superposable Tri-Klops. For some reason I had two of his little drones, and they flank his side, making him this super-killer bad dude. My son painted the figure, if I remember correctly, a few years ago (and it looks like it might time to revisit it). And the other day he painted the drones.
The recent comic appearance is just sweet for me — it gives validation to my custom and helps support my cause for more 200x in the Masters of the Universe world! It’s also worked as inspiration to get Man-E-Faces done, as well as Mekanek. Hm… That reminds me, I need to take pictures of my 200x He-Man custom on MOTUC Battle Cat with MOTUC Battle Lion armor. Easiest custom ever!
You can make your own today by picking up the figure on eBay.com and then hacking up one of your beloved DC Universe Classic extra’s that you don’t know what to do with.
