In celebration of ThreeA Toys’ 4th anniversary this year, Ashley Wood released an updated version of the original ThreeA 1/6th scale figure — NOM de Plume. This new figure is known simply as “NOM 4,” the “4” being a reference to the anniversary, and it would appear a reference to the number of hoses extending from his mask as well. Lots of current ThreeA fans weren’t around when the original NOM was released, and on the rare occasion when he pops up in the aftermarket, he goes for obscene amounts of cash, so this is a chance for fans to own at least this new version of that very rare, original figure.
All the trademark features are here — the shiny red eyes, the dirty white ThreeA shirt, the red sleeve, the olive green military pants, etc. If I’m remembering correctly, it was never explicitly stated whether or not this actually is an updated NOM de Plume, but it’s difficult to look at this figure and not think of him as such. And since the original 1/6th figure is so hopelessly out of reach, he’s going to be displayed on my shelves as NOM de Plume.
I have to admit that I wasn’t really looking forward to this figure very much and almost didn’t even order one, but when I opened him I was very impressed with what I saw. His outfit is a fantastic update of the original figure’s, but with added features and what appears to be more detail. The boots are particularly impressive. The laces appear to be real and the boots appear to be really laced up. Until now, ThreeA’s 1/6th figures have had sculpted laces that looked convincing enough, but these look really cool. Normally I could hardly care at all about a figure’s shoes or boots, but I can’t stop admiring these. They’re so well done.
I haven’t tried unlacing them to check out their authenticity because I’m positive I’d have a hard time getting them back to their original state, so I’m just going to admire them as they are.
The bag and clothing look convincingly well worn and lived in, but his t-shirt would benefit from a little less mud, or whatever the grime is supposed to be. The pants, bag, and boots look really good, but his shirt looks just dirty as opposed to lived in.
I think it’s the random patches of stark white on the shirt that make it look as though some mud was just tossed on it in an effort to make it look weathered. It’s not too bad, but it’s enough that I do notice it when I look at him under good lighting.
He comes with two pistols, a baton, and a swappable right hand that’s in a more relaxed state, similar to his left. The baton I assumed was a large knife until I actually removed it from its sheath. Maybe it’s because I’ve been unboxing so many WWRp Caesars lately, but I’m so used to seeing sheathed knives hanging off ThreeA figures’ belts that this baton seemed like a really nice surprise. It’s a pretty cool accessory and I like the idea of NOM using it to knock some opponents unconscious.
I’ve always been fond of NOM de Plume’s look, so adding this figure to my shelves feels very satisfying. His look is so quintessentially “ThreeA” that he really does feel like an essential addition to the collection.
Being that he is a ThreeA figure, the only way to get him right now is on the aftermarket since the actual sale happened months ago. I do think he’s worth tracking down, and I’m fairly comfortable in ranking him among ThreeA’s strongest offerings this year. If you don’t have the original 1/6th NOM, or his 1/12th interpretation, then I would definitely recommend picking up this guy if you can find one at a decent price.
