Demanded Characters – Wildcat

Welcome back to another edition of Demanded Characters.  This week we continue our look at the elder statesmen of the JSA.  One of those older members, Wildcat, has aged well and can still kick butt with the younger kids.  Using his mind to fight now a days, his fists have been know to get him in and out of many scuffles in the past.  Ted’s looks have not changed as drastically over the years as others heroes, but he is an important character to most of us. So let’s let Mattel know how we want Wildcat made.

Last week most people wanted to keep Alan in his classic costume, and there was a consensus that age is not that much of an issue.

Ted Grant is a tough guy.  His origins vary; depending on what decade you started reading comics.  He is a popular character who has a history on each of the earths in the multi-universe.  One thing they all have in common is they are all fighters.  Ted grew up on the opposite side of the spectrum as Bruce Wayne.  He was orphaned but did not have the luxury of billions to keep him safe and happy.  Ted learned how to defend himself and made a living out of it.  Ted became a boxer and in his various histories has held multiple tittles in the ring.  Taking on the name Wildcat, Ted started to help fight crime with the JSA.

He has been the voice of inspiration to the JSA for a long time, being the one hero without any meta-human powers.  He was magically endowed with powers after the 1st Crisis, which gave Ted 9 lives.  Ted was able to be magically revived after death, time and time again until recently he sacrificed his last life to defeat the power of the Spear of Destiny. Though he is a man’s man, he seems to have a soft side and his friends know that under that tough exterior there is a very caring man.  Wildcat has also proven to be quite the ladies man, having romances with Queen Hypolita, Catwoman, and currently sharing some sexual tension with Powergirl.  Ted has also trained some of the best fighters in the DCU from the big scary Batman, to the unassuming Black Canary, and now he is teaching his son Tom how to fight smart.  As one of the original members who are still active today, he has become a mentor for a lot of the young heroes today.

Let’s Look at our choices:

Skin Tight Wildcat- This character seems more like a male version of the purple Catwoman.

Wildcat Blue- While I always picture Wildcat in Black, the blue version would be a nice variant to add to the DCUC, or as a regular figure.

Wildcat Black- This is a design which is easy to identify and is very similar to the original design of the character.

Wildcat Black with Taped Hands- This is the character that seems to balance the modern and the classic.  It also shows to the general public this is not just a guy in a cat suit but a real fighter.

Wildcat Jr.- I know he is new but he’s had some exposure from Kingdom Come, and now in the JSA I know he would be a very wanted figure.

Female Wildcat- During Crisis this hero emerged to carry on the mantel even though she was not as well recognized as Ted.
