Bandai: Star Wars Yoda 1/12 and 1/6 Scale Model Kit Video and Quick Pics

I’ve actually had the Bandai Star Wars Yoda model kit for about a month, but for some reason the usual excitement wasn’t there. I don’t know if it because of the 1/12 scale version being a statue or not having a place for the 1/6 scale model. But I finally took the time to build it and I still have mixed thoughts on both but I’m leaning towards the positive.

First off, this kit, more than anything, punches home the fact that this a model kit, and model kits need paint. It comes down to being the first organic character in the line. If you look at the pictures on the box or in promotional pics you’ll see that the figures look great. That’s because they have been professionally painted. Out of the box, the skin and cloth looks plain. Granted, all the other kits can seem a little plain too but it’s not nearly in your face when it’s an armor or metal bits. Most kits need some weathering to get them screen accurate. Some dirt, some finish. Yoda needs a complete paint job.

But that just comes with the territory. I’m not bummed because of how plastic it looks. I guess I just have nowhere to display the larger prequel Yoda. It’s nicely articulated and there are some nifty features but I feel like it overshadows the smaller OT Yoda. Plus, like I said, I don’t really have any kind of display for larger scales.

When it comes to the 1/12 Yoda, I’m actually surprised how much I like it. It’s nothing special and it has no movement whatsoever, but it has a classic cool to it. Plus, I’m already using the Koto Yoda and it doesn’t move either, so no loss. No, I think I’m going to buckle down and give this a paint job and if I’m right, it’ll be in the main display. Depending on my own skill, that is.
