Okay, this 1:12 Era “Wolfman” isn’t going to be for everyone but I find the concept of a seamless body interesting and I didn’t have a movie Wolverine on my shelf. Two birds, one stone. Well, if curiosity can be considered a bird.
Let’s start with a little reminder though because I was commenting how thin the figure looked compared to our boy Hugh and someone reminded me of what he looked like early on compared to later in the franchise.
So I think this figure is going after that early look, maybe X2?
I will say, for an unlicensed third party item, he packaging is quite nice. Shiny chrome, durable box.
Not a lot to the accessories. It comes with a shirt that I absolutely can not put on the figure. People have done it, I know it’s possible, but maybe I’m not pushing the figure as far as it can go. And then the dog tags are….cheesey. There’s no way around it. A couple of little pieces of plastic and Christmas tinsel. Those were gone right off the bat.
The 1:1 scale dog tags are super nice though.
An alternate set of fists with bone claws is appreciated but they look odd. Someone commented that his skeleton looks to be made of pretzel and I can’t disagree.
But it’s the figure itself that I find interesting.
I’ve never messed with a Phicen, and their new 1:12 scale offering under the company name TBLeague is nice, from what I hear. Softer, more malleable than Wolfman. With this figure, its almost seems like the bendy figures from the old days, just with a way nicer sculpt to it. It’s more dense in places like the torso, making the wire skeleton harder to manipulate there. And yeah, I really think the inner metal is just bendy wire. It works, but you have to plan your attack. The arms and legs are easier to bend, although the muscles don’t fall in line like actual muscles would.
The skin splotches and tones make it realistic, along with the fairly nice hair application. It looks like little lines super upclose, but from a normal distance it because fine hairs. The nipples throw me, but they don’t bother me like they did at first. As much as nipples can bother, at least.
The likeness isn’t great, but that may be on purpose. Again, unlicensed. This could be any other random dude in jeans and muscles. Y’know, normal run-of-the-mill guy. With hands knives.
Speaking of the jeans, it’s another thing that irked me at first but I got used to them, like I do most softgoods. I especially like how the pants lie around the ankles. That’s an odd thing to point out, but there it is. The belt buckle is a bit large but nicely detailed.
If you have this figure, makes sure to pop the ankles all the way on as they seem to be barely plugged in out of the box. It makes the proportions a little off, making the legs longer, and cause the feet to constantly fall off. Push. Push hard. Feel the pop.
Like I said, this won’t be for everyone. It’s one of those things like face printing and real cloth at this scale. It’s an ongoing process that may find it’s niche as it continues along and improves. It’s not perfect. It looks odd in excessive poses. But now that I have it standing on my MCU shelf, it just look badass.
It doesn’t seem to be available at a lot of the outlets I know, and for items like this, that was far and few in the first place. Looks like eBay may be your best bet.
