A new batch of Mattel DC Multiverse promotional images for your viewing pleasure!
Former Mattel designer Jason Langston continues to post more promotional images on his Instagram and honestly, these get me a little more fired up for the line, even more than seeing them in person at SDCC. I know I give the company a lot of grief but it’s not like I DON’T want to see more action figures on the shelf. I look forward to new DC figures, and by new DC figures I don’t mean the A-listers again. Seeing Vixen and Katana and Black Canary makes me miss my DC display and spurs me on to find room for DCUC again and these new additions.
But saying all that, prototypes and promotional shots are the first hurdle, getting these out to people is the next. Let’s not count our Hawkgirls before they hatch. Basically, I’m ooooing and awwwing over new pics and the thought of reinvigorating the DCUC/Multiverse shelf, but not getting too flummoxed at the idea of waiting a long, long time to see these on store pegs. Some might see that as pessimism but I’m just basing it off what we’ve seen so far. There are just some truths that have become common over the years. MAFEX and Mezco is going to get delayed, you can’t always trust what NECA says about future plans, don’t ask Hasbro about specific characters, and Mattel shows DC stuff that may take a loooong while to actually release.
Gotham by Gaslight Batman is a 100% new body with interchangeable hands, throwing knives, and a soft goods leatherette cape.
Vixen is the new female body with a unique upper torso, lower legs, claw hand, and head. She’s part of the Luthor C&C wave along with The Ray and is scheduled to be out this year.
Rebirth Hawkgirl sports new ball jointed wings, lower arms, and lower torso with belt. Jason states that she was still pending licensor approval so there may be changes before release.
Rebirth Katana is a partially new body and come with her sword, of course. She’s due to release in 2019.
And then Rebirth Black Canary, who has both a smirking and screaming head.
I think I slipped Lobo into a Weekly but just in case you missed it, here he is with both 90s and Rebirth heads, removable vest and necklace, and real metal chain. He’s partially built on the Mutant Leader body but has a lot of new parts.
