Hasbro: Marvel Legends Thor and Sif

The Marvel Studios First Ten Years line is a treasure trove of unreleased Marvel Cinematic Universe characters. While I’m still hoping for a Warrior’s Three set, this release of Sif and Thor from The Dark World goes a long way toward filling out my MCU Asgardian ranks. Let’s take a look at Thor and Sif!

The set comes with the Thor and Sif figures, both in their Thor: The Dark World garb, three swords for Sif, Mjolnir, and a small shield for Sif.

The three swords are basically two versions of the same sword. In the films, when Sif twirls her sword, it magically extends into a spear version of the weapon. The spear version comes in two pieces and can come apart. I decided to just glue the pieces together because they popped apart often when posing.

The shield has straps and it’s easier to put it on by popping the hand off, placing it within the straps, then placing it back on.

The weapons are all cast in a silver plastic that does a decent job of representing metal, but could really use a wash to bring out all the details.

Sif’s hands are a little bit large and don’t hold the weapons very tightly, so that’s a little fiddly. The sculpt is fantastic, with an almost creepy good likeness to the actress and a detailed set of armor.

The only flaw in the sculpt to my eye is that the shoes are very small. They are a weird, high-heeled boot, which may be movie accurate, but it makes it tough to pose the figure. The paint is good, but a wash would help out those details.

The face printing is very successful, though it can look pixelated in up close photography. Articulation is Marvel Legends standard and her armor and hair is flexible enough to allow posing.

Thor is a repaint of the Amazon exclusive 4-pack Thor with armored arms. The sculpt is solid, but shows it’s age a bit in comparison to newer figures.

Mjolinir is also cast in the same silver plastic as Sif’s weaponry, but it has an swirl effect to it. There is a bit of a wash on some of the facets in the hammer which is nice.

The sculpt is pretty good. I think the body is very solid, but the likeness isn’t 100% there like it for Sif. The face printing does make for a nicer overall finish on the features than the original figure.

Thor also has ML standard articulation except the neck is just a ball and socket. It does not have the hinge, so he doesn’t look down very much at all. The hair is pretty soft, so he does get decent range of motion otherwise. The shoulder movement is also limited by the hard plastic of the tunic around where the cape attaches (it’s glued on).

The paint is good, with sharp detail work and a little bit of a wash on the hair to bring out detail. Overall, the jem of this set is Sif, but Thor is pretty nice too. He’s a great looking figure for standing about, but the large heavy cape makes him a little tough to use for action poses.
