Bluefin has distributed the Bandai S.H. Figuarts Thor: Ragnarok Hulk and he’s a big, big boy. Hulk SMASH!
I’ll admit I’m really liking what this Hulk brings to the shelf. It’s dynamic, the articulation is above what I expected, and like I said, he towers over the other SHF figures I have. That’s a good thing, and unexpected as I’ve never gotten a big Figuarts before.
The skintones really stand out to me, along with the colors of the gladiator garb, I just kind of wish there was more of a dirtiness to it. Some weathering here, some dust there. And that goes for the weapons too. They are huge and imposing but so so shiny and clean. I want them to look like they have been through the mud and the blood.
While the size is appropriate, I feel like Bruce needs to be more massive in the chest and arm area. The legs should be a little stubbier. But when I stare at it I think the biggest thing that pops out at me is the neck. I think of Hulk as a head on a chest, barely a neck, so I think that may be throwing off the proportions for me.
One thing that would have put this over the top for me would have been a head with hair, no helmet. Just another display option. The two faces work, even if they aren’t quite movie accurate, but one more head would be a lot nicer, turning this smoldering fire into a raging fire.
But like I said, strike a pose and it’s damn intimidating on the shelf. This makes me want the SHF Thor now where I was passing on it before. I’m a sucker for pairs. And while I have my gripes I think I like this version the most and it makes me look forward too the Figuarts Avengers Hulk that Tamashii Nations has been teasing at various overseas shows.
