Hasbro: Star Wars Black Series 40th Anniversary R5-D4 Video and Quick Pics

This review is coming in a little late, what with the GameStop exclusive Star Wars Black Series R5-D4 hitting stores nearly a month ago, but it’s taken this long to actually find one in my local stores. Plus it’s not the most exciting of releases. That may be the point though.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s awesome to get R5-D4. Or Skippy, depending on your acceptance of comic canon, official at this point or not. Plus the vintage carding continues to push all of my buttons, more and more each time I see them. But really, it’s the old R2-D2 mold with a new dome and a lot less accessories. But, BUT, that makes it a good exclusive. It’s out there for people to track down, but it’s not really a main character so if some never see it, no big deal.

I say all that like most of us aren’t OCD, plastic addicted fiends who need each and every release in order to complete our precious collection. To stuff our shelves. To fill that emptiness deep inside that burns at us day and night, eating away until we’re just a shell of our former selves.

Ahem…

R5 is an okay addition to the Star Wars shelves, especially if you don’t do the Bandai model kits. At the end of the day I prefer the model because of it’s detailing and more accurate size but it also comes out clean, so extra work is involved. If you’re not down with that (and truthfully, I haven’t dedicated any time to weathering mine, so don’t take that as me calling anyone lazy because I’m King Procrastination personified) then the Black Series it is. And really, with it’s limited screen time and larger dome the size discrepancy isn’t nearly as noticeable as R2.
