Kotobukiya: Yoda and R2-D2 Dagobah Set Video and Quick Pics

It’s always been in the back of my mind that the Star Wars Black Series Yoda needs replaced, but it wasn’t until recently that I was shown just how out of scale it really is. So the hunt for a better scaled Jedi Master was underway. And it still is, but I feel a little better for the time being.

As I talked about in the Bandai model kit Yoda article, the actual movie prop supposedly stands 2’2″ tall, which would be a little over two inches in 1:12 scale. The Black Series Yoda stands at about 3.25 inches. It does look better with a replacement head, but that still leaves the body tall. It looks okay but once you start scrutinizing the details it kind of falls apart.

Enter the Kotobukiya statue. Yeah, statue. It’s actually a simple model kit with interchangeable pieces for different looks but it’s still a statue. So it’s not a perfect substitute on my action figure shelf but it looks so damn good and fits so much better that I can’t help putting it up there. And to get a spirit version too, so go along with my third party spirit Obi-Wan? Even better.

Unfortunately the R2-D2 is too big, actually sticking to the advertised 1:10 scale on the box and the rest of the line. Why Yoda came out smaller, I don’t know. You can see that the head, hands, and feet are bigger thatn the SWBS Yoda but like I said, it look so good I don’t even notice it.

The Kotobukiya Yoda and R2-D2 set is available on Amazon.
