S.H. Figuarts: Injustice Harley Quinn

Every once in a while a figure will come out that I end up getting simply because of the pictures I see of it after it’s released, even though it wasn’t even on my radar beforehand. The new Injustice Harley from Bandai Figuarts is one of them.

Having never played the game and not being familiar with this look at all, I completely glossed over this figure’s release. I had seen pictures of both the Batman and Joker figures from the line, but I still wasn’t interested in this version of her. It looked nice enough, but not quite “Harley” enough for me. Well, that is until I kept seeing awesome picture after awesome picture of her. She seemed so super toyetic and fun that after a week or so after I first saw in-hand pictures, I caved and picked one up. I was not disappointed. In fact, my expectations were exceeded.

The packaging is very nice and compact.  In fact, the little box it was mailed in made me think that this figure had to be in 4- or 5-inch scale because of its tiny size. I guess I’m used to superfluous American toy packaging, but I could really get used to such a no-wasted-space packing job like this.  You see everything you get in a nice, clean clear box.  Really dig it.

Right out of the package I was drawn to her alternate faces.  I know most Japanese figures tend to have interchangeable faces, and she’s no different.  It’s a very cool way to change her up a bit, and they really do a great job of expressing her personality.

Basically, the heads she comes with are normal Harley; mischievous, sneaky, happy Harley; and then bat-shit crazy, murderous Harley.  All three faces pop on and off super easy, and each is sculpted very well.  It’s hard for me to even decide which to display her with.  I’ll probably end up keeping her smile face on once I get her to the display. That is, if I can ever stop playing with and posing her to get her off my desk and onto my shelves.

The next thing I was blown away by was the number of accessories and extra hands she came with — hands for each weapon, and even some extras just for certain poses.

Her revolvers are my favorite accessories because they don’t just look cool, they’re actually die-cast! I figured this our when I  dropped one on the floor and it made a metal sound.  Very cool and another nice touch you’d expect from a premium figure like this.

Again, the gun hands allow her to get a nice, solid grip on the guns, and her trigger finger fits the trigger perfectly.

She also comes with her trademark hammer and hands that are made perfectly for her to hold it.  The hammer is pretty solid too.  It definitely feels and weighs more than your average hollow plastic accessory.

Next up is her knife, which has Joker’s face as the handle — another little nice touch that really sets this figure apart from your standard retail release.

Her playing card is so cool and a really nice detailed touch.  I’m sure I will lose this soon enough because it’s really, really tiny.  The fact that the Joker face and lettering is so clear on something so small amazes me.

As for posing and playability, she is off the charts. If you’re familiar with the S.H. Figuarts line, she has the same standard articulation that comes with the rest of the line. It’s a notch above Marvel Legends articulation, with everything you’d expect from that 6-inch line plus a little more. The knees, elbows, ankles, wrists, and neck are all on a ball-jointed system that allows for double-hinged up-and-down motion, as well as side-to-side. Pretty much everything you’d need to get Harley into all kind of “Harley” poses.

Her hair and hair covers are also poseable and even help to achieve certain poses by using them as a stand.

All in all, this is a figure that I flat-out have fallen in love with. It’s probably the most fun I’ve had playing with and posing a toy so far this year. When you add how fun she is with the actual quality of the sculpt, it really is well worth every penny. Head to toe, she is super detailed and well put together. She’s going to cost you more than the average retail 6-inch scaled figure will, but you definitely get what you pay for. This is a super premium figure that really meets all the expectations I had for her.

As for scale, she’ll fit right in with either your Marvel Legends or your DC Universe Classics figures.

While this may not be the perfect, iconic look for Harley, I still would highly recommend this figure if you’re into DC, Bat characters, or just fun toys in general.  It’s well worth the money and is just super fun to play with.  After all, that’s what we’re in this hobby for right? Harley definitely delivers there.
