Marvel Legends: Spider-Man Infinite Series Spider-Man 2099

Spider-Man Legends Infinite Spider-Man 2099 Featured

Spider-Man comes in many flavors. Blue and red. Black and red. White and black. Silver. Other dimensions. And sometimes, he comes in future flavor.

We’ve had a shot at a Spider-Man 2099 before but that figure was lackluster and I passed. So when a new version was shown off at last year’s SDCC I knew I would have it. I wasn’t much into this version of Spidey back when he was first introduced but when he showed up in Exiles he caught my eye. Interesting personality, great costume, and hey, it’s Spidey. Kinda. Super articulation on any kind of Spidey is always fun.

As you can see, all the details are there, including his web cape. It’s not very dynamic but it’s a huge step up from the fabric cape of the first one. He has his spikes on the back of the forearms. His logo and the paint apps attached all look great. The body itself is a metallic blue with the swirls like we saw on the BAF Iron Monger.

Let’s get the big question out of the way though.

Spider-Man Legends Infinite Spider-Man 2099 Comparison

The only parts shared between Superior and 2099 are the legs and upper arms. Everything else is new. Similar, but definitely different. The torso is longer both above and below the ab crunch making Miguel taller. The waist is wider and more elongated which helps make the transition from hip to leg less jarring that Superior. The forearms have the spikes on the back. The hands and head are the most obvious. The hands seem a little big in some poses but the head. Oh man, the head.

The head is perfect and my favorite part of the figure, if that makes any sense. The eyes are placed perfectly. The symmetry is magnificent. This is due to the fact that the design is actually sculpted. The raised design helps the paint look more crisp and defined. On mine there is a slight bleed that goes off the raised sculpt but it’s hardly noticeable.

Another great thing about the paint is the thought put into the chest logo. The skull is completely on the upper torso with the fangs extending down on the abs but the way it was painted allows the crunch to be utilized without much break in the design. The same could be said where it extends out onto the shoulders and down the arm. I appreciate when companies put that kind of time into little things like that.

The second biggest question has been whether or not the joints are gummy like what we saw with the Guardians of the Galaxy series. I can only speak for mine but there is no gumminess here. In fact, this one is stiffer than some of my Avengers wave figures. But I’ve also heard the opposite from some others who already have this figure in hand so it may be a case by case problem.

For a full articulation breakdown and range of movement, check out my video review.

As much as I like the design of the character and the translation to figure form, I think I like posing him more than anything. I mean, c’mon, this is a Spidey. I think there is a law somewhere that states you can not display or leave any kind of Spidey action figure in a neutral pose for too long. I’ve already found myself picking him up and fiddling more than I usually do with new figures. Definitely worth tracking down.

You can preorder this wave from either BigBadToyStore or DorkSide Toys with an expected arrival date just around the corner.
