Four Horsemen Studios: Gothitropolis Ravens Griffus and Falcus

Four Horsemen Studios Gothitropolis Ravens Falcus featured

I’m a bit late to the party as the Fwoosh, and most of the internet, covered these amazing new action figures from the Four Horsemen.

Their regularly occurring crowdfunded event started many moons ago in the form of Fantastic Exclusive in which collectors were invited to vote on their favorite action figure design from a series of drawings that were posted. Each character drawing would be attached to a different property or world and then the character with the most votes would see action figure form. There were a couple of rounds of voting and we got a Minotaur, Elephant, Female Queen, and an Ancient Dark God before the Four Horsemen would change format. In 2013 they moved their line to Kickstarter where the line would be funded by collectors. It was a huge success and the introduction of different stretch goals and variants made it an even bigger success.

The figures finally started shipping last fall and mine arrived in January. Outside of a little delay and a customs/VAT/postal handling fee, I am super happy to have the birds in my hands. I’m still missing the stretch goal helmet, screaming head, and wings, but I have no doubt these will arrive at some point. The figures arrived in fantastic condition although, I did have to massage them with heat, freezing and some elbow grease to loosen the swivel hips and the swivel biceps. But as I was informed via email ahead of time I knew to look out for the joint issues.

The figures reviewed here are the griffon (Griffus) and the falcon (Falcus), 2 characters that I really wanted the most. Both of them fit into a medieval motif that I have going on in my toy collection, either as heroic warriors or as monsters to be battled. While I don’t have any of the Game of Thrones action figures, I can’t help but think that the griffon would fit perfectly in with Jamie Lannister. The falcon on the other hand is a perfect fit with my Scarabus Horos, who I use as Horus the Egyptian god known for his falcon head, I’m tempted to pick up more just to build a royal guard for Horos. I still want human feet for Horos but I’m curious about using the Raven feet on him.

I don’t have much to add over what Benty and VeeBee had to say in their articles, but I am having a ton of fun playing with these figures and they make great display pieces. The figures and sets are currently sold out at StoreHorsemen and I don’t know what the future holds.
