Last week’s poll re-cap: With 35%, the majority of you chose Annihilation as the comic event you’d most like to see as a theme wave (or two) produced for Marvel Legends.  While there were many wonderful ideas for write-ins, sadly none of them was for a Wolverine: Origins wave.  The Dokken fervor will claim you!

Make My Marvel! – Shadow King

Professor Charles Xavier first encountered the Shadow King in the form of the obese mutant Amahl Farouk while traveling in Egypt.  During the resulting psychic battle, Farouk was killed, though his mind escaped to the psychic plane in the disembodied form of the Shadow King.  It’s not clear whether Farouk was always the Shadow King, or if he was simply the latest in a long line of human hosts.  Then-CHIPS-heartthrob Erik Estrada was apparently already taken.

The Shadow King later attempted to regain physical form by possessing the New Mutant Karma.  Having always lived for indulgance, the now-possessed Karma gained hundreds of pounds and created a crime syndicate.  The Shadow King was eventually defeated by the New Mutants and Karma was freed.  For a time, the Shadow King again remained non-corporal, though evidence suggests that it was during this period that he produced Baby Got Back while possessing rap artist SirMixALot.

Tiring of all the haters, the Shadow King returned to small time villainy, setting his sights on possessing the X-man Storm and claiming that she had been promised to him as a host long ago by an unknown third party.  Though Storm eluded his grasp, the Shadow King did come into contact with a group of X-Men based out of Muir Island.  Over time he influenced their behavior and came to possess dozens of mutants.  The reunified X-Men and a recently-returned-from-space Charles Xavier fought the evil entity and once again banished the Shadow King, re-paralyzing Xavier in the process.

The Shadow King again returned and, in a pitched telepathic battle with Psylocke that crippled nearly every telepathic mutant on the planet, was sealed away into the Astral Plane.  This required Psylocke’s constant concentration and that she never use her telepathy again.  When Psylocke was later killed, Rogue took her place as the avatar that would keep the Shadow King imprisoned.  Though unable to manifest on Earth 616, he apparently is still able to wreak havoc in many alternate realities via the connected Astral Plane.

Shadow King’s form has almost always been as a large character, be it an obese host or giant psychic avatar.  Thusly, Shadow King would most likely be produced as a modern BAF.

Which version of the Shadow King do you most want made for Marvel Legends?

Shadow King (Astral)

Amahl Farouk

Psychic Gladiator

Karma

Possessed Xavier Earth-6141 (X-Mob)
