Doctor Octopus is one of the oldest Spider-Man villains, first appearance 1963 in The Amazing Spider-man #3. The dude has been around forever, been through various incarnations, taking over Peter Parker as the Superior Spider-man and even becoming a Parker clone as Superior Octopus. But this old classic heavy set, medium small height green and yellow tentacled version will always be the best.
We’ve never reviewed the original Toy Biz Series 8 Doctor Octopus. It was the best version of Doc Oc and still stands as a solid figure. Might be time to dig it out for a retro review. But the new Hasbro Oc, kills any version made. This is a beautiful figure, perfectly sculpted, nicely engineered and a ton of fun to play with. Hand candy factor 10.
I love the sculpt on this figure. Heavy set figures have always been a challenge to do in articulated action figures, too much of either the sculpt or articulation had to be sacrificed to make the figure. But Hasbro nails it with this figure, the sculpt is perfect and the articulation blends seamlessly into the sculpt, neither taking from the other. There are details on the suit that make it pop and simple colors scream on the shelf.
One of the big draws for Doc Oc is his square head with the bowl shaped hair do. Like many of the current Legends, Doc’s a nice unique head sculpt. It pops and looks like the old mad scientist. For an added bonus the glasses are not sculpted on and you can raise them to see the entire face underneath.
Oc comes with 4 tentacles that can be put in the any of the pegs on Ock’s back. The tentacles are not bendy, rubber with a wire in them. But they are preposed and pretty dynamic.
This is the best version of Doctor Octopus, it’s a great sculpt, has great articulation and pops on the toy shelf. It makes me want an updated Superior Spider-man and definitely a Superior Octopus to go into the collection. You can pick him up today at:
