Lanard Toys has a line of toys for the upcoming Dwayne Johnson action movie, Rampage. The film is based on an old video game where you play as a trio of monsters and gain points for destroying various cities. In the game, Lizzie was more like a large Godzilla creature; here, it’s a mutated crocodile. Accuracy to the game aside, it’s a big, colorful monster toy that called to me from the Walmart shelves. Let’s take a look at Subject Lizzie!
Lizzie comes with a soldier that appears to be a re-use of a figure from Lanard’s The Corps! line. The figure is a little more articulated than the figure that came with Ralph with —
- Ball-and-socket neck
- Swivel/hinge shoulders
- Single-hinge knees, hips, and elbows
- Swivel biceps and torso
He’s a neat little figure with some decent detail and movement, though I find it odd that he didn’t come with a gun.
Lizzie is a massive sculpt with tons of beautiful scale and spike detail. It’s sculpting is on par with pricier toys. It does have fairly limited articulation with single-hinged legs, tail, jaw and frills. The tail movement is a very limited side-to-side motion. The jaw opens and the neck frills move based on pushing a button located at the top of the head.
The jaw doesn’t want to stay open without the button pushed down, but I was able to jam it open for some photos by opening the jaw really wide, but it’s not meant to be posed with an open mouth unless you are pushing the button.
The paint is also pretty nice with drybrushing combining with a dark wash to highlight all of that nice sculpted detail.
Overall, this figure is really nice, massive monster for the $14.95 price point. I’m not super interested in seeing the film, but I have a feeling that I’ll get a lot of use from these monsters as the years go by.
