Hasbro: Star Wars: The Last Jedi First Order Disguise Finn

Finn is my favorite of the newly introduced characters in The Force Awakens, but I was not terribly excited to get figures based on the early photos of his The Last Jedi costume. He basically looks like a Poe Dameron cosplayer, so I was happy to see that his Black Series figure was in a First Order Officer disguise. Let’s take a look at First Order Disguise Finn!

This version of Finn comes with the standard First Order blaster pistol, a removable hat, and a new version of the Z-6 Riot Control Baton.

The baton is cool because it’s more detailed than the baton that came with the previous Riot Control First Order Stormtrooper, and it has a working extension feature. The conductor contact vanes can flip outward so the baton looks like it did in the infamous “TRAITOR” scene in The Force Awakens.

The blaster fits nicely in Finn’s holster, though, oddly enough, it’s only painted on one side. It’s also a little weird that Finn’s trigger finger doesn’t really want to fit into the trigger guard.

The hat is nicely done, cast in soft plastic but retains sharp texture details. I like the way it fits on him; it doesn’t look too large on him and I don’t think they shrunk his head to make it fit either. The First Order symbol on the front is very cool and sharp tampo.

The sculpt is very good. I feel like the likeness is a little closer to Boyega than previous Finn efforts, though I feel like his eyebrows are a little less arched than they should be.

He looks like the right height and build, and the costume has some excellent cloth fold sculpting. I really like the cloth texture they added to sculpt.

The paint is the weak point of this figure. The figure suffers from the usual Hasbro simplistic black-dot eyes, which work well in smaller scale but look a bit comical in the larger scale.

The uniform is the bare plastic for the most part and could use some Dull Cote, but I really like the super glossy boots. Very Imperial!

I also like sharp detail on the little words printed on his arm band. According to the Visual Dictionary from TFA, the First Order officers have names of famous Imperials on their arm bands. I wonder what this one translates to …

The articulation is Black Series standard:

  • Ball/socket head and waist
  • Swivel/Hinge neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, wrists, and ankles
  • Double-hinged knees
  • Swivel thighs

Overall I like this figure a lot. The hero-in-villain disguise is one of my favorite Star Wars tropes, so I’m glad to see it will continue in The Last Jedi. I like the way this figure looks in a group of my first order troopers, so I think I may pick up another one for a quick First Order officer custom.

There is another First Order Officer coming with Admiral Ackbar, so I’m curious to see if it reuses this sculpt or is it’s own thing.
