Hasbro: Marvel Legends Abomination Series Captain America review

I’m taking a break from the Crimson Dynamo wave to take a look at the Gamerverse Captain America from the Abomination Build-A-Figure wave. This Cap is from an upcoming Avengers video game and has a more of a militaristic costume design and if I’m being honest, I think I really bought it to have him team up with my G.I. Joes. Let’s take a look!

Cap only comes with the shield. No BAF part, no extra hands, just the shield so he feels a little light on accessories for a modern figure. The shield has a bit of some raised detail around the star and strip on the front and rivet details on the inside.

The handle is a clip that can shift to a peg so you can attach it to the back. The wrist is a little thin so the clip doesn’t want to attach there. I have to clip onto the armored forearm and I’m a little concerned that it is stretching out the clip. I think I would have preferred two fists for this cap, but an extra fist and extra hand would have been ideal.

The sculpting is pretty great on this figure. The details of all the armor and gear is very sharp and matches the source material well. Cap looks solidly built, but the proportions are more regular human than the exaggerated musculature of classic comics. He fits right in between MCU and regular Marvel Universe in terms of size.

The heads on the MCU helmeted Caps I could find today were a little too small to swap, but the MCU Cap/Sharon carter two pack figure worked really well.

The articulation is ML standard and moves well for the most part with:

  • Swivel/hinge neck, shoulders, wrists, hips, and ankles
  • Double hinged elbows and knees
  • Swivel thighs, waist, and boots
  • Mid-torso hinge

Lately I’ve complained about the detents in ankles being too tight, but they seem to be missing from the ankles in this figure and this guy tipped over quite a bit when I was taking pics.

Paint is not great on this figure. It’s mostly blue plastic and that plastic is a little too shiny for my taste. The red and white are really muted on the costume and the the red especially could stand to be brightened just a bit to match the source material.

The face looks to use a fave printing which is mostly effective, however my figure has a bunch of blue paint blemishes that has a negative impact on the look and the blue lines around the helmet’s chin strap are sloppy.

This particular costume design really leans into the tactical military gear look and if you shaved off that star this figure is one head swap and a little paint away from being a cobra trooper with all the blue. It’s one of those realistic designs that seems almost ashamed of the comic book look.

That being said, he works so well with the new G.I. Joe figures (well I only have Snake Eyes, but I love how this figure looks with him) so he ultimately works for me.
