Hasbro: Overwatch Ultimates Reinhardt

I’m finally finished with my look at Hasbro’s Overwatch Ultimates series one with the over-sized Reinhardt. Reinhardt is a “Tank” style player character, which in shooter games is typically a larger, slower character that can take more damage. Let’s take a look at Reinhardt!

I knew Reinhardt was a bigger character, but I was pretty shocked by the size of the box when he showed up. This thing is humongous and towers over the regular packages. It’s so large that even the over-sized Reinhardt character can be seen fully through the front window panels.

I initially didn’t think he needed as much box as they made for him, but upon opening it made more sense when I saw that he comes with a massive shield piece that is almost the length and height of the box.

Reinhardt comes with an energy shield, a massive hammer, two stands for the shield and a removeable armor piece with a stylized lion’s head.

The armor piece plugs into a hole in Reinhardt’s forearm. I believe that in-game, this is what generates the energy shield because it can also plug into the front of the shield while the shield has a peg that fits into the arm.

The shield in the game often sticks to the ground, so you could balance Reinhardt and the shield along the ground, but Hasbro included two small black clips that hold the shield in place for better posing.

I did notice that the peg from the shield is slightly thicker than the peg on the lion armor piece, so the lion armor piece does fit a little looser after attaching the shield to the arm.

The hammer is a massive solid chunk of plastic, though I think the handle is a seperate piece from the head, it doesn’t come apart.

Thankfully, the handle is a solid piece of plastic and supports the weight of the rest. I was a little worried that I was going to break the hammer trying to shove it into the stiff plastic grip, but it held up great.

The sculpt is very nice, with a ton of cool armor details. The aesthetic is a neat mix of mech and medieval knight that totally works for me. This is a must have figure for armor junkies. I love that his armor includes a giant jet for manuevering and even jet assistance to swing that massive hammer.

The design is super bulky, but he has a lot of articulation including:

  • Ball and socket neck and mid-torso
  • Swivel/hinge shoulders, wrists, hips, and ankles
  • Double hinged knees
  • Single hinged elbows, “loincloth” and shoulder pads
  • Swivel biceps and thighs

The articulation works really well for such a bulky character, but there are expected limitations like the hip movement is somewhat limited by the bulk of the armor around the waist and the hips and the swivel at the ankle does not move much.

The paint is minimal as most of the figure is cast in a metallic steel. If you get really close up, you can actually see the individual metallic flakes in the plastic, but at a distance, they do their job well and create a metallic glint over the figure.

I think my favorite paint application is the red trim along his shoulder pads. It looks like it was printed on with a weathered look and is very effective.

Overall, I’d say Reinhardt is my favorite of these figures so far. The bulky robo-knight design is a lot of fun and I could see him being useful outside of just an Overwatch collection. He’s a massive chunk of plastic, akin to a Marvel Legends build-a-figure and that’s without counting the huge shield and massive hammer.
