Hasbro: Black Series Stormtrooper Executioner

Hasbro likes to parse out the Black Series exclusives to different retailers, and Target drew The Stormtrooper Executioner from The Last Jedi for Force Friday. I picked up one of these guys early in the morning on Force Friday and kinda regretted not grabbing a second because they are all gone at my Targets. Let’s take a look at the Stormtrooper Executioner.

Let me start off by saying the name kind of threw me. Stormtrooper Executioner sounds like a guy who kills Stormtroopers, not a Stormtrooper who kills. The bio backs this up, stating this guy kills traitors to the First Order. Something tells me they are going to have beef with our buddy Finn.

The Stormtrooper Executioner comes with a laser axe. The axe has little translucent blue electro effects that are removable. The claws hinge and can close and open. The downside of this thing is that the handle is softer plastic and doesn’t want to stay straight on my figure.

The sculpt is pretty much the First order Stormtrooper figure from The Force Awakens. The head sculpt is slightly different, having a slightly pinched look to the line across the front of the mask. I believe that’s film accurate, but it’s such a slight change, I wonder why they bothered to do this in the movie.

The articulation is as follows:

  • Swivel/hinge neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and ankles
  • Ball-and-socket head and torso
  • Double-hinged knees
  • Swivel thighs

Man, I really wish they had taken this opportunity to retool the elbows on this figure. Hands down, I find these to be the most irritating elbows on any Black Series figure. They make a standard two-handed blaster hold awkward.

Paint is decent. The armor is mostly plastic, but it has a nice gloss to it. I really like the sharp First Order symbol on the shoulders.

Overall, this is a decent figure. I’m a bit of a mark for troopers and army builders in general, so I’m feeling like I want at least two of these laser axe-wielding troops.

He’s got the same articulation issues as some of the previous FO troopers, but the arm articulation does work a bit better for axe wielding poses than blaster poses.

  1. The reason they changed the mouth line in TLJ is to make it a bit closer to the mouths of the Stormtrooper and Phase II Clone Trooper helmets that were their predecessors; instead of just having an even-thickness mouth line, it’s now thicker at the middle and thinner coming to a(n almost-) point at the ends, and it has the “teeth” parts in it now too.

  2. I also wish that they would have re-tooled the elbows. The awful articulation failure kills this for me. I can appreciate the new helmet sculpt, but come on Hasbro!

  3. “The bio backs this up, stating this guy kills traitors to the First Order.”

So…there’s a big problem with traitors and defectors from the First Order, I take it?

  4. Not gonna lie. I groggily read this while eating breakfast and read that as, “Man, I really wish they had taken this opportunity to retool the eyebrows on this figure.” And then I immediately started staring at his helmet, confused. :-p
