MOTUC Feature: Prahvus

Prahvus_01The Club 200X subscription wraps up this month with one of my more anticipated figures: the deadly warlord Prahvus! Let’s take a look . . .

Prahvus_02Prahvus™ Bio

Real Name: Prahvus the Untamed
Released by Count Marzo from his magical prison, Prahvus the Untamed roamed throughout Eternia terrorizing the populace and causing havoc throughout the land. Marzo had intended to use Prahvus as a distraction, to divide Miro’s troops during the Great Unrest. But thanks to the heroics of Prince Keldor, Prahvus was contained again inside of a magical lamp. Decades later, after Hordak returned to Eternia, two of his bumbling minions released the warlord again, but this time, he was quickly enslaved to the Horde Invaders by Hordak’s chief witch. Prahvus uses his unstoppable strength and great magic to destroy any heroic warriors who get in his way!

I honestly do not remember anything about Prahvus being locked away in a mystical prison in his one episode in the 2002 cartoon, but it works for me as a plot device to bring him into multiple eras of MOTU.

Accessories

Prahvus comes with a magic lamp and a mace. The mace is a neat design that has a cool pyramid-ish shape. There is a lot of detail packed in there and it’s cast in a semi-soft plastic. The handle on mine is a little warped.

Prahvus_04

The lamp has a classic-looking magic lamp sculpt with some shiny paint work, and the plastic was stiff enough that I’m not seeing any warping.

Prahvus_05Sculpt

The sculpt is interesting to me because I guess I really never gave Prahvus that close a look over and I completely missed that the original design has a bit of pig nose. I have to say the horns are especially cool and demonic looking. The chin beard is a little crazy that sticks out about an inch from his face.

Prahvus_06As usual, it’s another nice blending of the 2002 details into the more graphically simple MOTUC style with the strategic use of a few new pieces. One odd choice is the boots are a whole new piece, even though the lower section looks like the standard MOTUC boot.

Prahvus_07Paint

Prahvus has some tattoos that are sharp and look good, but I think Prahvus could benefit from some shading with a wash or some drybrushing on the shoulder skull to bring out the details more.

Prahvus_08Articulation

Prahvus has the standard MOTUC articulation except his boots are missing the usual boot-cut swivel. The shoulder is interesting because it’s attached to the cape, which hooks onto a disc inside the shoulder.

Prahvus_09This attachment point allows the arm to move outward, but the cape moves forward and backward with the shoulder. That works nicely when you swing Prahvus’ arm behind him, but looks odd in a forward position.

Overall

Prahvus is a great add to the MOTUC shelf and has a classic “demon” feel. The dark blue-black plastic that dominates his color scheme stands out nicely on the shelf, and I love him leading my army of barbarian warrior-types.
