MOTUC Feature: Evil Seed

Evil Seed_01The Mattycollector.com Club 200X continues in spectacular fashion with another great MOTUC figure this month: Evil Seed!

Evil Seed_02

Evil Seed™ Bio

Real Name: Sero Malustro

Created by Moss Man to aid Grayskull in the Great Wars against King Hssss and the invading Horde armies, Evil Seed betrayed his master and turned to evil, finding joy in corrupting all forms of plant life for his own amusement. Catching up with his vile creation, Moss Man imprisoned him in enchanted chains, keeping him restrained for many millennia. Sero was eventually freed by Orko, whose curiosity lead him to regrettably release the evil master of plants. Now an enemy of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Evil Seed fights to corrupt all plant life, using his twisted vines in deadly combat!

Evil Seed_03Evil Seed being related to Moss Man seems like a pretty obvious idea considering they both have plant-based powers. Maybe it’s a little too obvious, but I do like the Master and failed apprentice angle they took here.

Evil Seed_04Accessories

Evil Seed comes with a couple of accessories: a neat little attack plant monster/vine and the Scepter of Power, a Filmation episode artifact. The vine is nice and flexible and can wrap around the arm well. The Scepter is solid and sturdy and matches up well with the source material.

Evil Seed_05 Evil Seed_06Sculpt

The sculpt on this guy is really fantastic. The 4H continue to show how well they can manipulate the parts catalog and basic bodies to create a wide variety of heroes and monsters.

Evil Seed_07There are actually a lot of new parts with the spikey, almost reptilian green plant parts and tons of highly detailed branches that work like costume piping in a modern superhero costume design.

Evil Seed_08Between the spikey collar and shoulder pads and actual thorns popping off this guy, he’s got an impressive presence. The head is my favorite part. He has these cool, deep-set eyes and lots of neat, almost alien-like detail around the back of his head.

Evil Seed_09 Evil Seed_10Articulation

The articulation is the standard MOTUC articulation, but it’s nice to see that all of the vines that attach to the thighs do not hinder articulation at all. The plastic is nice and soft on the lower torso piece and upper armor, so he gets a lot of head movement even with that crazy big collar.

Evil Seed_11 Evil Seed_12Paint

Paint is decent. Evil Seed is cast in a green plastic and has a little shading and some detail work on the branches. The pop of red in the eyes and mouth looks fantastic.

Evil Seed_13 Evil Seed_14The metallic bronze on the scepter is also really nice.

Evil Seed_15Overall

My expectations for this guy were pretty low as I’m not much of a fan of this version of Evil Seed, but the 4H made a convert out of me with the fantastic sculpt. He’s a fun figure to play with and I love the little vine attack accessory. It will be cool to combine his vine accessory with the stuff coming with the Filmation Evil Seed next year.
